Just wondering - portable phones (the ones you use at home - not mobile phones). Does anyone know if they are safe for children to use.

Have absolutely no idea whether they are similar in the way they work to mobiles or not.

My children use ours quite a lot to speak to grandma and just suddenly wondered at the weekend whether I should actually get them to just use a normal standard phone.

Just suddenly came into my mind this weekend when read yet another article about mobiles being dangerous.

Off top of my head! There are concerns about them. I remember concluding I wouldn't worry about it, but will try to find a link with more concrete details.

Cordless phones operate at frequencies close to radios/TVs (that explains why my neighbours phone conversations used to come through our radio!).

Site to feed your paranoia (search down page for link to 'cordless phones' ). But, there are masses of links on the Internet to studies that couldn't really find an elevated risk, or only a tenuous one for mobiles, never mind cordless phones. The cordless phones have a much lower power output than a mobile which should make them less risky, but people may stay on the cordless much longer and get the same or worse exposure, I think that's the gist of the concern. I guess I concluded probably best to keep longer conversations to non-cordless, but not a lot of evidence either way.
