Our next door neighbours are lovely and we collect each others mail when on holiday etc. We have one 3 year old, they have 2 teenagers.

On Sunday I was packing up our car in garage and saw 15 year old daughter get into a ute that already had 2 people in it (the driver - her boss, who I met previous week and another bloke). Obviously there wasn't another seat because it's a ute so she sat on passengers knee and off they went.

1 minute later her parents and brother drive up, just as I am leaving. You have 30 seconds to decide before they go into their house.

Okay over to you...

I'd leave it. What would you want to do and why?

threebob · 10/11/2006 23:37

She's still in the car, no seatbelt on a blokes knee, with her boss - she's 15...

I would leave it as well. TBH it wouldn't be my place to get involved.

I presume you are abroad..maybe aussie by the term "ute"..? Just because I know that I wouldn't want to get involved for fear of repucussions (sp..) iykwim... Its all to easy for a friendly family to "turn" on you..
Sadly thats what society has come to. .

expatinscotland · 10/11/2006 23:38

I'd leave it.

Toothache · 10/11/2006 23:40

More to the point..... what did you do?????

busybusymum · 10/11/2006 23:40

If I saw this I would mention it on the grounds that if something happened I would never forgive myself!

controlfreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaky2 · 10/11/2006 23:40

i would tell parents... wouldnt you want them to tell you if was other way round?? why should they "turn on you"??

shhhh · 10/11/2006 23:44

it's just that in this day and age there are some parents who would appreciate being told such thing....and then there are others who would tell you to feck off and mind your own business..!

I would appreciate it. BUt would hate to be on the receiving end of someone telling me to keep my nose out etc. I would let the parents find out someway.

threebob · 10/11/2006 23:46

The fact that she was still in the car with a mobile and I could change things tipped me, I couldn't have lived with myself if something had happened.

I went up to them and explained what I had saw and that it was none of my business, but that I could only decide what I would want if it was me.

He mum said "she knows she's not supposed to do that" and I apologised again in case I had said the wrong thing and drove off.

well done, you did the right thing.

sandcastles · 11/11/2006 23:22

Well done threebob, I would have done the same thing.

"I would let the parents find out someway" How Shhh, when she was hurt in an accident?

threebob · 12/11/2006 02:46

To me speed was of the essence - I didn't want her bollocked later - I wanted to see her in a car with a seatbelt on and her own seat as soon as possible.

Making bad decisions is part of being a teenager, but watching someone make one and doing nothing is just not for me. Her boss is one adult that doesn't think - I'm not going to be another one just because someone might tell me to F off.
