I'm thinking about Christmas presents.
Ds is 9 months now and dd is 2.5, what is good for one has to be good for both of them, I think.

We love Duplo.

Although I think little people/ELC Happy Land sets are pretty good too.

southeastastra · 10/11/2006 15:17

duplo bricks! my son still plays with his

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 15:22

How old is he?

Skribble · 10/11/2006 15:34

Duplo or happy land, stickle bricks never seem that popular in the nurseries.

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 15:36

I thought stickle bricks were dead popular

Hi MrsD Ds is getting duplo from both sets of grandparents. He has some Happyland stuff but atm prefers cars and dinosaurs!

Skribble · 10/11/2006 15:42

All nurseries seem to have them but its not something the kids seem to play with a lot, wooden bricks or duplo beat them everytime.

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 15:43

How are you LucyJones??

Dd is into dollys mostly, she'l get loads of that stuff from grandparents.

I'd like to get something they could both play together with.

Most people seem to think Duplo

We've had all 3 - Stickle bricks a definite last in popularity, Duplo got played with a fair bit but Little People the most. The latter two still played with regularly at 8 and 5 although being usurped by proper Lego and Playmobil!!

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 20:25

Can I bump this up for those on now?

OP posts:
Tommy · 10/11/2006 20:26

duplo is fantastic and will last them longer I think. My DS1 is nearly 5 and he still loves it

Posey · 10/11/2006 20:28

Stickle bricks can be quite tricky and are limited in their range of uses.
The other 2 are both great.

MrsDoolittle · 10/11/2006 20:30

Now you see our nursery said Stickle bricks were better than Duplo but little people/ happy land was the best

What is the difference between Little people and happy land

OP posts:
ilovecaboose · 11/11/2006 14:38

I'd go for happyland/little people personally.

Duplo is brilliant for my ds but only recently (he's 2) can he play with it himself.

ilovecaboose · 11/11/2006 14:39

little people +happy land are different brands, but I don't think there's that much difference in them.

MrsDoolittle · 11/11/2006 14:41

I have seen that happyland is ELC and Little People is Fisher Price. I'm wonderign if that is the only difference or does one have the edge over another.

I am wondering because I have neither yet and I am guessing the kiddies may start collecting one of them

OP posts:
ilovecaboose · 11/11/2006 14:43

I'd go for happyland on the basis that it seems to be alot cheaper and I can't see any real difference between them.

MrsDoolittle · 11/11/2006 14:45

this is what I am wondering. Do you have them?

OP posts:
ilovecaboose · 11/11/2006 14:48

I have some happyland (Well ds does) and is quite good as combines with other elc toys (e.g. the top of his sand and water table can be used as roadway etc).

My cousin's dd collects little people and we were looking to get some for her and I have to say I was at the prices, even reduced. Though it has lasted well (but so has ours) and she adores it.

MrsDoolittle · 11/11/2006 14:52

Thanks for that iloveacaboose

imho Little People sets can be a bit more tactile (like the circus animals have fabric parts) and suitable for younger tots to grasp. Some sets are interactive (the fairground rides have lights and tunes), others more traditional standalone sets such as house, castle and garage with additional vehicles and people to add on. Happyland people are taller and more "figure"like and sets can link together individual sets with roadway sections but you need a fair amount of it.

You can often find LP sets with "extras" on offer in Woolworths, Toys r Us, Argos etc and sometimes Happyland is on offer in elc but as it is their exclusive brand you are less likely to find it on offer as regularly.

MrsDoolittle · 11/11/2006 15:09

Thank you for that LIZS. It's a good point. Woolies often have huge sales after Christmas.
Actually I think I can remember a Fisher Price garage I use to paly with when I was small. Looking on ebay its 'vintage' little people

Them were the days..........

OP posts:
abgirl · 13/11/2006 15:39

If you want to increase your LP collection following Christmas, there's always loads for sale on Ebay. I've recently acquired a village and railway for less than half the price of one of these sets normally - also save on postage by looking for sets for sale in the local area so I can go and collect it. Both sets I've got were in immaculate condition with all the original pieces.
