Dad has just really helped us out and I want to send something to show how much we really appreciate it - any suggestions ?
If it was my mum I would send flowers but doesn't quite have the same effect for blokes.

Haven't got a great deal to spare at the mo, probably around £30 ?

Whisky, port etc, a good bottle. Spend the whole amount on it.

SSSandy · 07/11/2006 11:12

Really nice bottle of Port?

Tortington · 07/11/2006 11:13

some florists do teddy bears - places like supermarkets do great pressies like this - a large thank you teddy.

SSSandy · 07/11/2006 11:13

But would her dad really appreciate a teddy?

Tortington · 07/11/2006 11:14

tickets to a local show
or cinema tickets?

SSSandy · 07/11/2006 11:15

nice book on fixing engines, do-it-yourself, glossy book about oldtimers or whatever his interests are?

Melly · 07/11/2006 11:22

Has your dad got any hobbies, gardening or anything like that. Maybe something for the garden??

saadia · 07/11/2006 11:40

subscription to fave magazine

WelshBoris · 07/11/2006 11:42

Take him to a show or the cinema, a nice meal

Something personal, not just a token gesture

Book? CD? One that he really wants.

Tutter · 07/11/2006 11:47

agree with wine - if it were mine i'd spend it on one really nice bottle

hockeymum · 07/11/2006 12:54

take him out for a meal - I'm sure he'd really appreciate time alone with you and a nice meal and drink to say thank you - something for him to remember

katzg · 07/11/2006 13:02

why not send your dad flowers? i have done this for mine and he really appreciated it. You can get the more manly bouquets with unusual flowers in. My dad also is a plant lover.

one place to try for unusal gifts is the glutanous gardener, although they are a bit expensive

Famous Grouse are offering their scotch with a personalised label, and room for a message on the back.

They're doing it thru' mail order as well.

It's filled a few awkward Christmas present gaps for us this year!

FoghornLeghorn · 07/11/2006 15:33

Thanks for all your suggestions - taking him sonewhere is a bit of a nono atm as am 9 months pregnant and he doesn't just live around the corner.
Popped to Sainsbury's and they have some nice bottles of wine and some of their Xmas bits that are out at the minute are nice, without being too christmassy IYKWIM.
