I've searched the threads and found a couple of MNers with bad experiences - anybody used them and have anything positive to say? Is it better to literally book 'last minute'? What about booking a couple of months in advance?

(Want to book a 40th birthday weekend away - maybe Dublin - for DH)

laterooms.com much better imo

I have only one thing to say regarding lastminute.com - don't touch them with a bargepole. Not only did they completely f*ck up our special event, it's now three months later and we are STILL fighting them for a refund.

Have dealt with lastminute once and they were OK but I much prefer laterooms (I've used them twice - thanks to the recommendation on MN!)

On the last booking with laterooms they dealt with a special request well and we got a lovely room.

Thanks for replies - not heard of Laterooms before, so will most probably give them a go instead.

Georgina, I saw your thread about the muck-up with your special London trip - what a shambles, sorry it's taken so long to sort out.

Another vote for laterooms here.

Hi jodee, one of the threads you read may have been mine. I've used them several times and a couple of times have had disputes with them. If you read my thread about the evening out I booked for my husband you know all about that. Then recently I booked a hotel room where lastminute advertised a good price if you had dinner as well. I wanted to book the dinner but when I progressed through to the web page where you actually book, the option wasn't there. I booked the room anyway and emailed lastminute to ask whether they could alter it to add the dinner.

I had no expectation that they would do it, but I wanted to push it a bit because they shouldn't offer deals that are not available. Several emails went back and forth where I was told that I should have booked that option in the first place, and that I should contact the hotel direct, etc etc, before I finally got an apology out of them, but of course no dinner!

I've felt for a long time that they are irresponsible, but their prices are so competitive that I continue to use them. However, I hadn't heard of laterooms either, so I think I'll try them next time.

the other people to try might be www.redletterdays.co.uk - don't know what they're like but have just won a silver experience voucher from them in a magazine competition, so I'll let you know what they're like!

I have used Lastminute.com and didn't have any problems but I do prefer laterooms as any special requests are usually granted, there was no such arrangement with lastminute.com.

IMO anyway

I used lastminute to book rooms in Barcelona in Feb - they were excellent, easily the cheapest, no problems at all. Had TERRIBLE problem with expedia last year in France - hadn't forwarded my request to the hotel that we would be late, had a 6 year old child with us. Had a horrible stand up row in the foyer of the hotel with extrememly rude recptionist accusing me of child abuse almost! But it was really down to expedia being rubbish!

Have used the one linked on ryanair's site quite a few time with no problems at all.
