Lets get Nutty a house........Strange/spooky thing has happened

After a terrible morning a slightly weird thing happened.
Dp phoned our old neighbours (from the house that got repossessed). He used to work with my dp but got signed off sick. My dp wanted to know what the pay arrangements were if he went of sick (doc has reccomended it, after dp collapsed crying this morning at work).
Anyway the house that we lived in is now rented out. A coupole have just been evicted from there and now it is let to a young girl and her daughter but she has said that she is definatly leaving in September.
Our ex neighbours said that the landlord is a pretty decent bloke and wouldn't credit check us or anything he doesn't think. Since we left he has put central heating in and basically updated the house a bit. He doesn't mind people decorating and from what the neighbour has said he prefers tennants to stay as long as poss.

It would be very starnge but do you think we should consider it ?? We were really happy there and i was heartbroken when we had to leave.
The rent is 460 a month , which is abit more than we could afford, but i thought maybe we could ask if it was negotiable because we wish to stay for as long as possible. Plus we would be the first people living there that actually worked which should count in our favour.
Our ex neighbour is going to speak to the girl thats there now, just to confirm that she is leaving in September and then let us know. I don't think we will be able to contact the landlord until she's given her notice though.

It's all a bit spooky really. We would be paying in rent what we were paying in mortgage when we had it, but the house is now better.

What would you do ??

Oh and if we didn't move until september then we would have time to save for any furniture we need e.t.c and i could start my driving lessons.
Am just rambling now, sorry.

where is it nutty?, did u say u used to live in great barr?

gold123 · 29/04/2004 11:22

Sounds to me like fate - if you were happy there and you clearly get on with the neighbours - it sounds ideal - I wish you luck, go for it.

Sonnet · 29/04/2004 11:23

i'd go for it Nutty.....this could be a great outcome.
Maybe if your ex neighbour was to have a chat with this girl and explain your situation and the crap you are going through she would speak up sooner to her landlord?..
it would give you time to save up - great
also, you'd get through that long summere school holiday coz there is light at the end of the tunnel...

Harman - No he's not going now. We have sorted alot out in the past few days, and really talked more than ever before. I'm not saying things are perfect now, but they are alot better.
September is ages away but if i knew for sure that we could have it then i wouldn't mind waiting. Like i said we could save for the deposit (if there is one) and for some furniture. We have fitted warbdrobes at the mo so we would need to buy some.

Tiredemma - It is Curbar Road, near the top. Has a lovely big back garden, excellant neighbours and i loved the house before.

Very spooky . Do make sure you find out why this woman is leaving. It sounds as if she may only have a shrothold Tenancy for 6 months if she has just moved in but plans to leave so soon, and perhaps the landlord prefers it that way. Remember that you are unlikely to get a long tenancy and would still have uncertainty as to how long you could live there, what you could do to the place etc. Are you prepared to live with that knowing once upon a time you could have done whatever you chose ? Would the kids have to move schools ?

GeorginaA · 29/04/2004 11:29

Agree with gold123 - sounds like fate. It would probably feel very bizarre, but if you can cope with that then I say go for it. You haven't got anything to lose by trying...

Good luck!

spacemonkey · 29/04/2004 11:31

Go for it nutty, it does sound like fate doesn't it? X

Nutcracker · 29/04/2004 11:31

Yep the kids would have to move schools, but that was always a possibilty anyway.
Not to sure why the girl is leaving, it may be to do with the fact that she doesn't get all of her rent paid because the house is technically bigger than she needs.
We would have to discuss with the landl;ord about having a long term contract i suppose.
I know you can get one for longer than 12 months but then it has to be done through a soliciter i think. He has brought the house to let out so we'd have to discuss it.
I suppose i would be slightly worried that he may suddenly sell or something, but then i think it's a risk i'd have to take.

Would be weird for my DD1 as she slightly remembers the house.
My dad lives at the end of the road which would be great again.
My mom won't be pleased though i know.

Plus i could still go bacl to college as there is one round the corner that does the course i was going to do here.
I sound like i'm trying to convince myself don't i.

Go for it. At least follow up the possibility with the tenant/landlord, or you are bound to end up wishing that you had. The owner of the house could, presumably, get character references from your ex-neighbours (and if they'd be happy to have you back it says a lot I think) which is a better recommendation than he could get about most potential tenants, so that would be a real point in your favour. And as he wouldn't have to go to any effort to re-let, or have a period of no rental income, it would possibly be an attractive proposition for him.

tiredemma · 29/04/2004 12:12

my best mate eleanor lives on curbar!, my new house is on tideswell!- spittingdistance!
good omen!

LadyMuck · 29/04/2004 14:49

DOn't want to pour cold water on this, but if the landlord knows that you lived there before and the house had been repossessed - well, I'd definitely run a credit-check....
