OMG trying to kit 2 year old out for ballet class

I feel a rant coming on. Dd has been pestering me for months about being a dancer and I've found a class that will take her even though she's not 3 yet (teacher does baby music and movement class and knows dd and feels she can cope with it). However, I need to kit her out - there is no 'official' outfit required but I know she'll want to wear the full set up like the older girls (up to 6). She already insists on wearing her fairy dressing up outfit to the music and movement class although nobody else does . Even on Ebay the costs are soooo high and I can't face paying all that money on the (admittedly very small) chance that she doesn't enjoy it.

Does anybody have any tips on where i can buy super cheap ballet gear? Any advice on how to get round buying the whole shebang would be much appreciated! (although she isn't even 3 yet she's very tall and wears age 4-5 tops so I'm hoping we'll find something to fit her!)

Agree H and M - you can get a leotard with sewn on skirt and satin pumps.

Hayls · 02/11/2006 18:43

I hadn't thought of H + M, will maybe try it at the weekend. I was in Asda this week and didn't see anything.
Sorry RubyRioja but the thought of a 2 year old being expelled from ballet made me lol... I sincerely hope she behaves- mums are not allowed in the room!

What colour does it need to be?

My dd is giving up ballet at christmas in favour of horseriding, so will be willing to sell you her stuff cheaply if you wish??

She has a lilac leotard, lilac skirt, navy blue woollen wrap cardigan. She is a tall 3 (nearly 4) so would fit your dd well.

Also have leather ballet pumps size 10 or 11 (will have to check), which have fitted her since she was a shoe size 7. (ballet shoes have weird sizes, they come up very very small)

Let me know if you are interested!

I've just put a post int he WANTED section. Peegee, that's a very kind offer but if your dd will need it until Christmas I doubt I can contain dd's excitement until then and she's most insistent on having a proper outfit!

Mothercare had proper Ballet clothes

Bella ballerina £5.99.
M&S leotard dress £9.

Hayls · 03/11/2006 08:47

Thanks for that, much appreciated. I got a new leotard with tutu, tights and shoes on Ebay for just over £20, which I hope wasn't too much of a rip off but I think I will still try to get an all-in-one dress type thing as well as I@m sure dd will want to wear it constantly
