put the pork loin steak, which I've defrosted in the fridge today, back into the fridge and cooked fried eggs, chips (oven ones) and peas for the DS's and cooked the sausages left over from last night for DH to go with his eggs, chips and peas. I'm supposed to be doing Creamy Lemon pork - but I really can't be bothered......

I don't know about being lazy but, how many days can pork survive in the fridge once it has been thawed?

Just wondering... I don't know how much food has ended in the rubish bin because I was feeling a bit lazy and then forgot completely until it was too late

Chandra · 01/11/2006 17:41

BTW. I have just taken some frozen food from the freezer because I can't be ---- to cook tonight

MacdogOnElmStreet · 01/11/2006 17:41

I would use it tomorrow if it smelt ok.
Make sure it's cooked completely, though

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/11/2006 17:43

oh it'll definitely be used tomorrow - it was frozen on the day of purchase last Thursday - and has been thawing in the fridge. I'm just so tired and cold today (worked last night too) and really can't be doing with the hassle of chopping it up, and cooking for the next 45 minutes.....when the egg and chips can be done with very little effort..

I meant to meal plan really easy things for the next few weeks as I'm utterly exhausted (so hoping it goes once I hit 12 weeks.......) so not sure what I was thinking when I planned this for today!

Aww, I didn't know you were pregnant! Congratulations!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/11/2006 17:51

thanks - I'm 9+1 (can't believe where the last few weeks has gone!)........well I've put the oven on so I can cook the chips - and if DH doesn't like it......well tough

OP posts:
Chandra · 01/11/2006 17:53

if he doesn't like it you can show him your pregnant woman credentials, let him to cook the dinner and go for a relaxing bath

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/11/2006 17:54

ermm well I would let him cook the dinner - apart form the fact that he doesn't finish work until 9pm - and is usually home at 9.30 at the earliest LOL.

You may as well throw it in the bin as it won't be safe to use for tomorrow.

How about pork loin steak, scrubbed potato wedges with skins on, onions, mushrooms, carrots, etc drizzle of olive oil and some herbs and stick it all in the oven. It will cook itself and nothing will get wasted.

WaitingForGodKnows · 01/11/2006 18:00

Why wouldn't it be safe to use tomorrow?

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/11/2006 18:02

NAB3 - why wouldn't it be safe.........all the websites I've just been looking at (re food safety) say that if it was frozen on day of purchase (it was), defrosted in the fridge (it was) and has remained at fridge temp or below (it has) then it's fine for up to 48hrs.......

ComeOVeneer · 01/11/2006 18:05

I would say if you defrosted it int the fridge and keep it there until tomorrow. I often do this with stuf from the frezer as dh phones up to say he won'tbe home for supper at about 4.30pm, so I do something easy for me then use whatever it is the next day.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 01/11/2006 18:06

here we go - from the Food Standards Agency

"try to use the meat within two days of defrosting ? it will go off in the same way as fresh meat"

well it only finished defrosting this afternoon...

still at least the debate seems to be about the 'safety' aspect - rather than the 'lazy' aspect - so I can happily go off and cook their dinner without feeling guilty

Thank you for advising me. I have been taught wrongly!! Sorry.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 02/11/2006 11:19

slightly off subject here....but how long can u safely keep left over meat/chicken from a roast dinner?

i won't use it past weds....

and can you rely on smell to detect if gone off...as i do that with milk too...anythibng only has to smell slightly odd and its in the bin!

Once i sent my son to scool with ham sandwhiches...and then at lunch i took a bite of mine and nearly threw up when i tasted the 'gone off ham'... i worried all day about him...then realised later on that it was ROAST PORK i had used...not ham!!! (and i don't like cold pork!). I had meanwhile thrown the pack away! My son loved the pork!
But have not bought it since!!!
