At what age are you 'allowed' to use bunk beds?

I may have asked this before but cannot remember...

dd1 is 4, dd2 is 2 and they want to share a room. Could squeeze two beds in their room but I think bunks would be far better.

And the catalogue says over 6, has anyone 'disobeyed' this?

Thanks, GoingQuietlyMad, that's a relief. I sometimes worry about him crashing down on a sleeping friend below him - they wouldn't stand much chance if they were one of the skinny ones...

mind you, am very nervous of you taking my word for it! I would check with the manufacturer for the age range, just to be on the safe side.

my boys have slept on bunks since DS was 7 And DS was2 .5 guess who sleeps on the top yes the youngest he fought harder to get there and no one could budge him I constantly panic about him but as yet 8 months later he has come to know harm but he can climb anything and he is braver than his big brother !!!

i'm sure that will be fine. i probably wouldn't put an under 2 in the top bunk, but anything over that i don't see as it would be a problem.

We're waiting for these to come back into stock - have had them on order for a while. Perfect for ds1's teeny tiny bedroom and they're for 3 years and up!

In general, kids should be at least 6 to sleep on the top bunk. My two are 5 and 8. 8 yo sleeps on the top and 5 yo on the bottom and they manage fine. Design of bunk bed, height etc may also determine if a child younger than 6 can use the top. But keeping to the guidelines is usually the best way to go. Hope this helps
