Have refused to let my kids go Trick or treating. I have let them dress up and they can greet the door knockers, but I don't agree with T-or-T because I see it as begging, and I also don't agree with children knocking on stranger's doors. The kids are now stressing because they want to go out...

Have told mine that we can go out in the street (weith DH & I) and only go to the houses with pumpkins outside (i.e. with kids who won't mind)

Sort of agree, I don't like it, but this is my 'harmless' compromise....

There's a whole thread on this tonight.
this

I don't ahve this problem yet as ds is only 2, but I hate TorT. And won't give them anything.

SparklyGothKat · 31/10/2006 18:16

Thing is we only moved into the street 3 months back (along with the rest of the street, new house) and we only know a few people so I don;t want to go knocking on doors I don;t know

SparklyGothKat - Mine are in tonight as well, and your not a bad mum for it. Halloween is usually a huge thing for us. They really wanted to go out as well, so instead we are having a little party just us. You could come up with some things to do instead. Like get the makeup out and let them paint your face and do your hair, have some treats, watch a semi scary film suitable to their ages of course. It can still be fun, even though you staying in for the night

SparklyGothKat · 31/10/2006 18:21

the other thing is I was brought up as a Jehovah witness, so never did Halloween as a child, so find it very hard.

Mine aren't allowed to go out t-and-t'ing and I've put a notice on the door to deter any from coming here. After all, if mine aren't allowed to do it, I don't think it's fair to cater for other children.

Blossomhowl · 31/10/2006 18:42

To be honest I only go to friend's houses so don't see the harm!

Blossomhowl · 31/10/2006 18:43

Freckle ~ that's mean

nikkie · 31/10/2006 21:36

We went to a party instead!
When we have been out before we go in a group and only go to friends houses , hate the idea of knocking on strangers doors its amazing how many kids fromschool knock at ours and say 'didn't know you lived here' well why are you knocking then?

KellyKrueger1978 · 31/10/2006 21:41

I put a notice on the door too. I also don't agre with it, and after the first two pounding on the door I stuck it up. They don't even take a hint that they are being ignored, they pound on the door and would wake the dts. We're having a halloween party tomorrow with games, dressing up and decorations, etc but no way will they ever be allowed out begging from strangers. I would allow it if we had friends or family nearby to visit.

Freckle · 31/10/2006 23:03

What's mean, Blossom? That I don't allow mine to go out or that I don't cater for others?

I don't like trick or treating and it is not practical in my area even if I did agree with it. I really don't see why it's mean to ask trick or treaters not to call here when my own are not allowed to do it.

ilovecaboose · 01/11/2006 08:18

I have to agree with Freckle - I really don't like TorT and therefore do not answer door to them or give anything out. Also won't be letting my ds do it when he's old enough.

I really have deep objections to Trick or Treating.

(DP claims its just cos I'm miserable and don't like people knocking on my door)
