How to get local authority subsidy for an arts workshop in London?

As some of you may know, I'm organising a Drag King Workshop in London in September with Diane Torr.

She has told me that in the past local authorities have provided funding for the workshops (under the performance art umbrella). This would make the workshop much more affordable for the women that want to attend.

Does anyone know anything about how one would go about applying for such funding with any of the London boroughs?

TIA for any info or advice X

Arts Council looks like a good bet.

Spacemonkey, you might get arts council funding under 'Grants For the Arts' - Phone Arts Council London Theatre Unit and also ask whether the Combined Arts (Performance Arts) and Access and Education depts might be the right ones to talk to, as it is a workshop for non-professionals. (Tho' if you offer workshops for professionals, they might well be covered by Theatre or Performance Art).
For the boroughs, there is no short cut except to trawl the council web sites and see what funding programmes they have, or talk to the borough arts officers. Start with the boroughs where the workshops will take place, and ask the venues - who will doubtless be innundated with fundraising demands of their own. But many boroughs have pots of money (say grants of up to £5k).

they will have funding officers. just give them a ring and ask what pot of money you can apply for and the criteria. usually the money is to help people of disadvantage in some way. and cheering them up with a workshop like this would be ideal. lottery arts might be worth a look. also ask the funding officers if any major government funding is available in the intended area. they will have a seperate contact number and criteria.

funding projects usually takes rather a long time so be patient.

if you aim it at a specific group of people - like residents of an estate - you can usually tap the landlord for money.
