My Ds16mths has always had a dummy. The last few times i've brought them i have got the ones with Thomas the Tank on (from superdrug). He managed to squash the teats on his current ones so i tried to give him a spare one (slightly different teat) and he won't have it.
Today i went to superdrug and brought some more Thomas ones, but the teat is slightly different. It is abit smaller and a different sort of latex i think. Anyway he's having none of it. What do i do.
I don't think he'll sleep without it (and i haven't the energy to try at the mo). Shall i just keep trying or hunt for some he likes ??

My dd hasnt had a dummy, and my hv always said that its good that she isnt havin one as itll be hard for her to stop having it. So if your ds doesnt seem too bothered about not having it, maybe you should leave it? Or is he not sleeping properly because he hasnt got his dummy?

Codswallop · 26/04/2004 19:19

No, BIN THEM!!!!

aloha · 26/04/2004 19:21

See how it goes... I can understand your nerves! When he's tired he may well go for the inferior dummy.

Nutcracker · 26/04/2004 19:27

Don't think i could cope with binning it just at the mo. I know that makes me sound terribly weak.
He does enjoy his dummy, well the old one anyway.
He doesn't have it much in the day but always has it at night.
Thing is he's a real fidget in bed at the mo, and as his cot is right next to me he already keeps me awake.
Dp has just tried to sneak one in but he is gagging on it.

God how dare they change them, there was nothing wrong with them the way they were.

I don't think you need the stress right now Nutcracker. And I sympathise. Hope it improves tonight.

Nutcracker · 26/04/2004 19:34

Right, he is in bed now. He is holding his dummy in his hand. He was really tired and fell asleep drinking his milk. He did wake up abit as i put him to bed but i tried to give him the dummy and he spat it out.
He seemed to like the fact that the teats were squashed on the others. Maybe is hould buy some NUK ones to try. Dd used to have them and the teats were pretty soft and sort of squashed.

If he seems to be veering towards not having it at all then i will go with it.

Nutty, my son is 2 1/2 and still has a dummy. He's dummy-less tonight (can't find any of the damn things) but there's no way I'm flying tomorrow with him and without one. I'm sure the other passengers will thank me for it!

Keep trying dummies if it helps. I get amused every time someone asks me to take the dummy out (he's too old, he doesn't need one now, etc etc) and he starts screaming. I let him (because I'm cruel and he screams a lot) until they ask me to give it back. It usually doesn't take long. (You lot think I'm a sick parent now -- really, he screams at anything and it's not a big deal to him or me.)

Codswallop, if you'd like though, I'll drop him by for a day or seven and you can wean him of them.

Nutcracker · 27/04/2004 10:07

Right, well he didn't have his dummy all night, and hasn't had it yet this mornig either.
He woke up once in the night, so dp straightened his covers and tucked him back and then tried to give him his dummy bit he refused it again. He then went straight back to sleep.
I now have to hunt for any of his old dummies as he'd gladly have one of those.
I'm sure it can't be this easy, and i'm expecting a bit of a fight when he has his nap this afternoon. We'll soon see.....

Nutcracker - you may find that he relinquishes it with little fuss.

The dummy fairy visited our house on Friday last week and took all the dummys away to give to the little babies - DS was given a present for being so generous. Amazingly he has only mentioned the dummy once or twice and we haven't had one tear about their disappearance.

He may just be ready to give them up? Just a thought...

Codswallop · 27/04/2004 11:11

well done nutty
dont buy anymore!

Codswallop · 27/04/2004 11:12

JJ and I would

I am the hard woman of cc

Nutcracker · 27/04/2004 13:05

Oh bugger, he should now be asleep and instead he is standing in his cot shouting. I gave him the new dummies and he just spat them out and lay there holding them. I am determined not to give him the old ones (can't find them anyway).

Am trying to be strong and ignore him. He slept fine without it last night.
Thought it was going to well.

Shush..................He is asleep. Will be abit of a short nap for him but he went off with the dunny lying right next to him. He has a rather p**d off look on his face though.
I tried several times to give him his dummy but he didn't want it.
I will be so chuffed if he doesn't have it again now. Dd2 is 4 and she only got rid of hers at xmas, so it will be weird having no dummies around. Good though
