I need to build a ceiling 20m by 10m how do I do this?

I don't really want a white plastic suspended ceiling (bit Cr*p to look at imo)

Thanks

Thanks Bran - I want to do a bit with the local paper when (if) we ever get started

I don't know how to do a blog

I'd love to share floorplans and photos and stuff with everyone

I find out loads of stuff from you all and it really helps me make proper decisions

I'd talk to a structural engineer. They should be able to point you in the right direction. I wonder if it would be possible to "hang" the joists from the metal roof trusses - I've no idea whether or not this would be possible. Can't think of anything else to suggest. I reckon the vertical posts would be the cheapest and simplest way to do it, though! Let me know what you end up doing. I'd be interested in knowing the solution...

I'll keep on thinking and bump this a few times tomorrow (if I have time)

Night all - catch you tomorrow

Thanks for all your help Mumpbump - I do appreciate it

dh says ' would it be an option to attach the 'ceiling' to the existing roof joists with a load of insulation in-between - so that you get a super-insulated roof rather than a suspended ceiling? You still have to heat up more air space but shouldn't get too much heat loss. Should be easier than fitting new joists (especially extra-long ones) and putting in new ceiling.

I thought of that - but apparently the roof structure isn't strong enough (which is a shame) cos it was a good idea

Well it looks to be so complicated to make a suspended ceiling that it looks as tho' I need to put in a "proper" ceiling/floor combination (for about the same price ) so we are having a second storey (or we will at some point in the future when I can afford a floor & a staircase

Now does anyone know how much a 10m RSJ is?
