If your DP (with only the best intentions) gave a money box to the school table top sale but forgot to check there was no actual money inside, would it look really bad to ask about it at the school?
(Only it has DS's savings inside--about forty or fifty quid in notes ) ...

Course I would ask; either pay your DS back or forego your pride.

has the sale happened yet?

can't see a problem if you explain honestly - I'd offer a donation of a tenner or something towards the sale proceeds so there's no hard feelings

SoupDragon · 24/10/2006 13:45

Goodness no, I'd ask. In fact I'd send a note out to every pupil and put up posters. I'd also like to think that the buyer would realise it was an error and reurn the money.

FreakyFloss · 24/10/2006 13:46

I think you could ask if it sold? If it didn't you could have a chance of getting cash back then - if it did then you could hope. Bearing in mind it is DS's savings then it is only fair to him that you make some enquiries. If box has sold and you don't know where to then I think you'd have to leave it there. Hope that the people are honest enough to return it.

It's not the pride thing that stops us. It's the possibility that this kind of thing might open up a whole can of worms (forgive the pun). Maybe it the money box didn't actually get to the table top, or maybe the person in charge remembers who bought it and they haven't returned the money, and so on ....

Sale was on Friday ...

I'd ask, but then if I'd bought a money box from a table top sale and it had money in I'd have returned it. Is it easy to tell if there's money in there?

beckybraAAARGHstraps · 24/10/2006 13:50

Is it half term?

lionheart · 24/10/2006 13:51

DP didn't realise (!)--he says he wishes I hadn't told him and what makes it worse it was DS's idea to round up his toys and stuff to give to the school.

Half term now. If it were me I'd return it, not least because I'd know it belonged to a child but it's hard to second guess these things.

Hard to return it at half term. Fingers crossed it's brought back when school re-opens. I'd ask then.

thehairybabysmum · 24/10/2006 13:54

If your DH didnt realise there was money inside (notes, not coins???), then maybe whoever bought it doesnt either and wont do until they open it which could be a while rom now.

If it was me i would ask the school if it sold in case it didnt, but if it did i think there's not much you can do about it....(maybe dock your DH's wages!!)

lionheart · 24/10/2006 13:56

It was all in notes (from his granma).
