Plastic Surgery - Would You Have It?

I know several people who have had discreet cosmetic surgery procedures (not Jordan style!), and they look great. They are not particularly vain people either. Each had their own reasons - breast/tummy work after childbirth/nursing, and one woman who had liposuction and an eyelift after her divorce. These women viewed it as personal maintenance and something that was done to make them feel better about their physical appearance. They now look "fresher", and all are happy with the results. No regrets.

Would you have it done, and if so, what would you do?

When I've finished having kids and I'm rich I will have my boobs lifted back up off my stomach and have any spare skin tucked in...in reality though I will probably always have something better and more important to spend my money on. So if money were no object, yes in 10 years time I would have them put back to what they were 5 years ago.

I had a breast reduction years ago. I was slim with a 36FF chest and it was just too big. Went down to 36C and was delighted. Years later though, after pregnancies and ageing, I am fatter and have a big tum, now a big pair of knockers would balance my look and distract from my stomach. I'd def have a tummy tuck after my child-bearing days are over (that is if I dont naturally gain back my figure which I doubt). I would also like a teeny bit of collagen in my lips, just enough to make them as pouty as they once were.

Having said that I am not particularly vain, hate the hairdressers, never go for facials or manicures etc, I cant stand it.

If I wasn't such a wus I would increase a cup size (and try to avoid going the whole hog as many seem to do). Also small prob of DH not into boobs that defy gravity.

perhaps tummy tuck after this pg...

and would love to be able to wear sexy
strappy sandals so perhaps lose little toe....

charliecat · 23/04/2004 10:10

I wouldnt, no desire to do so and ive saw too many horror storys on tv.

Northerner · 23/04/2004 10:11

The idea of it sounds great. Pop in for a nip and tuck and come out looking 10 years younger. In reality I'm too much of a wuss to go through with it.

A friend of my MIL's had a full face lift last year, and she was in absolute agony. Only my MIL knows her secret as she helped her at home when she was rcovering. She told all of her friends she had a hysterectomy. She now look fantastic I must say.

Earlybird · 23/04/2004 13:07

Not sure if I would do it or not. One friend (single and high earner) goes for botox every month to eliminate the frown lines between her eyes. Obviously not surgery, but a medical process. She sees it as a regular part of her routine - almost like getting her hair coloured.

My sister is tiny - looks like a child from the back - and really didn't need a bra. She had a breast enhancement to give her some shape, and she looks great. Could even have breastfed if she'd wanted to do that with her ds.

I think you'd really have to research it carefully to be sure you got a reputable surgeon. It's mindblowing to me to see these women who take "package holidays" to eastern Europe (or elsewhere) to get surgery done at a cheap price. Or even the people who go to Brazil to get silicone when it's outlawed elsewhere.

Northerner - would your MIL's friend say now that the pain was worth it?

ds3 has to have an upper eyelid life in 298 months!! does that count?!!

Codswallop · 23/04/2004 13:13

18 even

Codswallop · 23/04/2004 13:14

VERY fat friend of mine had boob reduction. she is 18 stone

Now you all know what I am going too say......

CountessDracula · 23/04/2004 13:19

Although I am FAR from perfect physically (!very far) I wouldn't have it as there is no one thing I hate about my body enough to warrant unnecessary surgery. If for eg I had a nose the size of concord or tits like Jordan I may think differently.

Now if I could SWAP my body completely, that's a different matter!

Am not so self obsessed that I am really worried about what other people think about my looks. Prob why am a fat cow!

Codswallop · 23/04/2004 13:20

minus 7lbs!

collision · 23/04/2004 13:23

No......wouldnt do it. Feel that my jelly belly and stretch marks are a badge of merit from child bearing! (Thats my excuse and Im sticking to it!)

I cry from PMT so there is no way I would put myself through surgery for the hell of it!

Absolutely. I've always wanted a breast reduction, and will treat myself to one (and a lift!) when I am done having my babies. I inherited some money recently and was told 'to spend it on something for myself, that I could keep'. Does pert boobs count?!?!?

lou33 · 23/04/2004 14:12

I would, definitely, if I could afford it.

kiwisbird · 23/04/2004 14:21

breast reduction... its on the agenda for post baby years

busybee123 · 23/04/2004 14:40

i would have plastic surgery but not in the ususal places....i'd have it done on my feet...i hate them so much and dread the summer when i have to wear sandals!!! i suppose i could go for a tummy tuck as well?!

aloha · 23/04/2004 14:41

Yes. Liposuction, facelift/eyelift - but not yet. Also is v v expensive. Have had Botox (freebie) and like it.

donnie · 23/04/2004 14:52

I don't think I would. I am heavier and more wrinkly than I used to be but so what? what is the point of trying to look younger when I'm not? also I want my daughter to love herself for what she is so having placcy surgery wouldn't be a great example to her IMO. Don't wanna end up loking like Ivana Trump, though I wouldn't mind some of her money.I wish women would make a stand on this and stop trying to subscribe to this 'perfect image'bollocks. Not trying to offend anyone but i FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT THIS!!!!

sykes · 23/04/2004 14:53

Aloha, you've had botox? Where? Did it hurt and just how effective is it? I can't find ANYONE who'll admit to it which is extremely annoying.

lou33 · 23/04/2004 15:09

Am available as a Botox guinea pig too Aloha !

Twinkie · 23/04/2004 15:14

I would have plastic surgery - am having nose done next year (put off due to pregnancy) - not just for cosmetic reasons but am having it made 'prettier' whilst havin it fixed.

Not sure I would have anything else as I am quite happy with the rest of me - always thought I would have a boob lift if they ever got really saggy but as my best friend says least they are not puppy dog ears - like another friend's boobs who who knew at school!! - even after breastfeeding too!!!

aloha · 23/04/2004 15:25

Sykes, it hurts a little bit, more than plucking your eyebrows but nowhere near as much as a bikini wax. It's also over quickly and very effective IMO at getting rid of little lines and rumples. Just makes you look smoother and fresher. For me, it's like having highlights and hiding my grey hairs. And it's no more expensive and takes a LOT less time. I can suggest some good practitioners if you are seriously interested. I don't have it often but I do write about cosmetic surgery from time to time and so get it free/discounted when I do. If I had deep crows feet I'd also have injectable restylane to get rid. However, I do think being slim and fit and dressing well makes you look much younger than any amount of cosmetic surgery. I am not slim or fit atm btw

aloha · 23/04/2004 15:26

I will contact you next time I need one Lou33! (seriously)
