Fancy a Parmo? : What's your home town famous for?

Parmo, short for parmesan, is a much loved food dish and was invented by the Europa Restaurant in Middlesbrough in the North East of England. Its original name was 'Escalope Parmesan'. Much-prized in Teesside and the surrounding region both as a restaurant meal and a take-out snack, it is normally served with chips and a choice of salad, coleslaw or creamed cabbage.
Making a Parmo involves deep-frying a flattened chicken or pork fillet in an egg and breadcrumb batter, then smothering it in Bechamel sauce before topping off with cheddar cheese (the original Parmo's were topped with Parmesan cheese, hence the name) and then grilling or baking in the pizza oven. Originally veal was used but later this was replaced by pork. In more recent times chicken became an option. The Parmo is available in two sizes and terminology varies between outlets:
Large or full Parmo
Half or regular Parmo. Sometimes known as a Ladies Parmo'

I hail from Middlesbrough originally hoem of the Parmo and Jorney South.

Can anyone beat that?

MwaHAHAMhamai · 22/10/2006 00:37

Grrrrrrrrrrr Samhain i've gone potty googling, there was a riding school not far away and it was set in a huge posh manor type place, in the other direction coming back towards Hull there was a shopping centre about a fifteen minute drive that brought you to Asda etc, have prob confused you more now!

Sorry for the hi jack

SamhainWitch · 22/10/2006 00:43

Well if it was a few years ago the Asda must have been the one at Bilton, the others are all more recent additions.

So East of Bilton then, more towards the coast.

The Hall and the riding centre on the estate

MwaHAHAMhamai · 22/10/2006 01:08

Ooh yes that's it! Well not his pad iykwim otherise I'd still be there! and I'm sure I was in the Bluebell as well, the reason I'm a bit sketchy on the address is because it was a house (not cottage as mentioned earlier) that was stood on it's owm and belonged to a farm up the road a bit. One lovely thing he did for me though was bring me to Scarborough and as mum had just died and had loved Simon&Garfunkles Scarborough Fair, I thought that was really sweet.

MwaHAHAMhamai · 22/10/2006 01:09

Ooh I took my first and last riding lesson at Burton too, couldn't walk for days!

SamhainWitch · 22/10/2006 01:11

My home town is well known for its cathederal, It is one of the only towns with a three spired cathederal (usually only built in cities). Dr Johnson was also born there! (And of course me! ...I got married there too) I don't live there now though, moved to Wales about 3 four years ago. Before that dh and I lived in Coventry...that has a cathederal also..and the home of Lady Godiva. (it got bombed very badly during the war too)

My home town is famous for Pork pies,Stilton Cheese & hunting.

It is also the town in the saying 'painting the town red'.

The nearest city is famous for,a very fat man,a very ugly man & the man who invented package holidays (probably to get away from the city).

MadamePlatypus · 22/10/2006 11:36

My home town isn't famous for its associations with the Rolling Stones. I think its because it is too middle class.

CheesyFeetcomingtoGETyou · 22/10/2006 11:48

ermmmmm....

I think the only thing this town is famous for is for having the same name as a large city in the US.

Most people look blank when I tell them where I live (apart from the ones that live here too of course).

The place I consider my home town is famous for its tower, it's piers, it's lights and its drunken stag/hen weekends. Not too difficult to guess that one really
