flutterbeebonfirebanger · 21/10/2006 12:55

Glutten for punishment?

Don't worry I support Mansfield Town FC (the mighty stags) and they are much worse than Man city.

lucycat · 21/10/2006 12:57

WHAT City? the city - Manchester.

2 nil down after 4 minutes

OP posts:
lucycat · 21/10/2006 14:48

Because it's naff beyond words to support United. It's got to be City. Even though they never win anything. Ever.

lucycat · 21/10/2006 15:06

tell me about it........

been supporting them for 20 years and they've won naff all - except a play-off final in 1999 against Gillingham now that was a great day

GraceUnderFire · 21/10/2006 15:11

I supported City as a child because it gave me one more thing to fight with my brother about - he's a United fan.

chubbleigh · 21/10/2006 15:58

With me it's Bristol City, now that truly is a triumph of hope over experience. Every year they lull you into a false sense of hope only to chuck it all away in the last few weeks of the season.

Also they are the only club to have gone down four leagues in four years.... dark days, less said....

theunknownrebelbang · 21/10/2006 16:01

Aw you have my sympathy.

A great colleague of mine supports City, whereas we support Stoke, and we're both well-versed in the art of losing with dignity, lol.

lucycat · 21/10/2006 16:32

I do sometimes wish i was one of those glory seeking supporters who could change their allegiance to whoever happened to be winning....but no City it is.

It's supposed to be entertainment, so why do they p*ss me off so much.

At least our no8 had a good game again!

dh is a city fan. not a happy bunny this afternoon.

Gobbledispook · 21/10/2006 17:00

Dunno Lucycat - Utd is the only team in Manchester

lucycat · 21/10/2006 17:40

erm Utd aren't actually in Manchester - but don't get me started on that!

bettythebloodier · 21/10/2006 18:38

This thread title could have been written by me, lucycat, except it's Hull City - slap bang bottom of the championship after losing (again!) today.
Only consolation is that dh's team lost 5-0

foxinsocks · 21/10/2006 18:41

Stuart Pearce will be under big pressure now. I was listening on the radio and apparently City really were dreadful

lucycat · 21/10/2006 18:42

oh no betty - we've been there, it's awful, especially as my 'other' team is Stockport County who are having an even more torrid time than City.

It's a world away from the millionaires.

OP posts:
lucycat · 21/10/2006 18:44

We lack craft and guile - with a few exceptions, we have no pace, no confidence and I do wonder about Pearce's substitutions sometimes. We weren't that bad really - I have seen much worse from us.

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 21/10/2006 18:49

did you go to the game?

theunknownrebelbang · 21/10/2006 18:49

ha, we lost (again) today....

More City woe.

threelittlepumpkins · 21/10/2006 19:36

Lucycat- because once you have seen them play just once, the atmosphere gets you. It's like nothing else. I have supported them all my life and have yet to see them win anything- play off excepted- but I wouldn't change my team for the world. I am used to the ups and the downs by now!

Dh is a scouser- no particular affiliation- but after I took him to Maine Road for the first time, he was hooked Stretford Rangers can't compare

foxinsocks · 21/10/2006 19:45

I find football very addictive. If I haven't been for a while, I start to feel a bit on edge. Being able to shout raucously for 90 minutes is so, well, therapeutic.

Gobbledispook · 21/10/2006 20:31

How are they not in Manchester? Stretford is Manchester and I'm pretty sure the postcode is 'M' something.

I bet you could get into the city centre about as quick as you can from Maine Rd!

threelittlepumpkins · 21/10/2006 20:32

'Twas a city jokey thing, that's all

lucycat · 21/10/2006 20:56

yeh, it's the old Salford being a city and all that......

Takes me 20 mins to walk from CoMS to Piccadilly - on a good day.

No i didn't go today, Wigan wanted to charge £35 for a ticket - I go to most home games though - when SKY don't put them on at stupid times.

OP posts:
paddingtonbear1 · 21/10/2006 21:01

i think United are in Trafford - it's in Gtr manchester.
my hubby supports Bristol City so he wasn't happy today either. they could have gone top!
have pity on Stockport supporters... also long suffering....
