Getting confidence back after violent street attack

Just that, really :(. I was the victim of a street robbery recently - four against one, with a large knife used to threaten me. It was very close to where I live, so I can't avoid using the street in the future without causing significant inconvenience in my day to day life. I'm led to believe that such incidents are not particularly unusual in the area (area of south east London) - so I am nervous about something similar happening in future. If you have been a victim of a violent robbery, what helped you get your confidence back?
Thank you.

That sounds dreadful. Hope you're doing ok.
Have you consider self defence or martial arts classes? Not so you could take people on, but to help you with body language, assertiveness eg.

Place marking. back in the morning with details of what I did& help received when more coherent.

I echo VegasIsBest comments. Taking up a martial art can give you confidence that is reflected in your body language and makes you less of a target for criminals to prey on.

I was mugged and attacked near to where I live, attackers not caught and I used the same street and the attacker spoke to me again!

I drive so drove more, but then a few times I had to get public transport as I can't park at work. I went through a year or more of jumping every time a man walked behind me. Or when I got off a bus.

For me it was time that helped but also the attitude that they wouldn't beat me. Also my local area stepped OP their policing and to cut down on street attacks, this was before London riots and I'm in SE London too.

I hope they catch your attackers OP mine weren't caught and to be honest the police weren't much help apart from the original officer who saw me after the attack.
