Just been this morning and as DS2 was asleep in his car seat, I left him in there and went to get one of the trolleys that car seats go in
None there
Went to customer services to be told they were all withdrawn yesterday...
How stupid is that? So its wake them to go in the other trolleys - if they are old enuf - or let them wobble precariously in the normal trolleys, or carry them?
Or go to Sainsburys

Agree Tescos is rubbish. That's why I swapped to Ocado - never get anything wrong, come early or on time, bring it into the kitchen, and no daft substitutions.

Tesco substitution logic: I ordered 46 size 4 nappies. I get 46 size 2 nappies. They clearly "thought" I had a fixation with packets of a particular size. I had actually ran out sooner than expected so had popped into the store earlier that day - found they'd run out, and so I selected a pack of 16 size 4. Not rocket science, is it?

Nutcracker · 20/04/2004 19:57

I have switched to shopping in Sainsburys, but not from Tesco from Asda.
We live by a very large one and it was driving me mad trying to negitoiate my way around there as it was always sooo busy, even at ridicoulous times of the day and night. Plus the shelves were always empty.
Sainsburys was sooo good. I walked around at a comfortable pace, found everything i wanted with ease and went striaght to a checkout.
I'm now trying to convert my dad as he is the worlds worst Asda customer. If he has to buy two small boxes of ceral because they hadn't any large boxes he makes them refund the differnce. Does it with the bottled water too. Surprised they haven't banned him yet.

Have to say i have only ever shopped in Tescos once and wasn't very keen. Used their online delivery service once too, which was better but not brilliant.

Lisa78 · 20/04/2004 20:01

It said on the news that £1 of every £8 spent on the high street, was spent in Tescos....

Tescos home delivery once substituted washing powder, which I desperately needed, with a bag of clementines. I suppose fruit would add a nice citrussy smell to your wash, but I didn't try it out.

lou33 · 21/04/2004 12:41

I think the online shop depends on where it is coming from. Before we moved here, our online shopping from Tescos was nearly always late, always had things missing, bad fruit etc. But since moving , they are either on time or early, everything is as it should be, and sometimes I don't even have any substitutions!

LadyMuck · 21/04/2004 17:44

After complaining vociferously about a delivery that excluded both baby and normal milk, apparently I now have a note on my file (presumably "stroppy cow"), which is meant to indicate that a mother or someone with better than average common-sense does my shop (and therefore my subs). It definitely did lead to an improvement!

On a separate matter - what has happened to SMA Progress (follow-on) milk? Neither Tesco nor Sainsburys has had any for over 3 weeks?

Lisa78 · 22/04/2004 20:12

Well I voted with my feet today and did the "big" shop at Sainsburys. I'd been there about an hour when DS2 wanted his second breakfast so I went to the cafe, got a coffee and as I stood deliberating how best to carry him and my coffee to a table without disaster, an assistant zoomed over and carried my coffee for me
Then when I'd finished, I got to the checkout and he'd been so good but had really had enuf then and started to cry for a cuddle. I picked him up and started to load the shopping onto the belt with one hand; two assistants appeared, one unloaded for me, the other bagged it up and put it into the trolley. When it got full (why does a full trolley turn into a trolley and a half at the checkout?!), he got a second trolley to load it into and they then proceeded to wheel them to my car for me - and even offered to unload it for me
So, comparing that to Tesco's with the carpark I have to pay for on a ridiculously steep slope and no bloody baby seat trolleys, hmmmmm, let me think, where shall I do my shopping.....

I got this email in reply to my complaint:

I have spoken to XXX, Duty Manager at our store, who has advised that they are currently
waiting for a delivery of new trolleys which do hold baby car seats. He has said that he will speak to the Store Manager in the morning to find out if any of the old stock is still at store, if there is they will make some available until the new stocks arrive. We aim to provide the best possible service to our customers and this includes always looking to improve the specifications of our stores. By listening to our customers, we ensure that our stores are brought to the highest possible standards.

Hmmmm, so why take the old ones away before the new ones arrive - or is it too complicated for them?

Must say I am very lucky I have a Tesco, Sainsburys, safeway and ASDA all within 1/2 a mile of home. And having tried them all I find Sainsburys by far the best, we use the internet shopping and most of the time find anysubs reasonabel. However I have noticed (sory to be sexist) that they do tend to make better subs if it is a woman, once I had conditioner subbed for shampoo?? tesco was never very helpful or polite and usually late ( why bother with time slots) where as Sainsburys are either on time or early nad on the one or two occasions they have been late they have phoned well in advance to explain and give a time estimate. They are also very good for exchanges and very helpful especially with packing. I would not recommend Safeway at all, all miserable buggers ( inour area anyway)and have no idea of customer service or service with a smile, after all manners and a smile cost nothing ( maybe that is the problem)

Berrie · 23/04/2004 16:57

At our local TESCO the parent and child spaces have signs which seem to suggest that you need to display a baby club badge (or something) in order to park in the space. I always park in them anyway and will somebody to try and stop me with my baby as I do so but am horrified to read about the clamping! No other supermarket demands membership to use necessary close parking - it just means I don't shop there! Am I right about the membership thing - it's so silly I wonder if I'm wrong?

Twinkie · 23/04/2004 17:09

I have switched to Sainsbury's competely now - am sick of the lax attitude of Tescos and used to get really pissed off as a childminder that they left all of their trolleys with child seats in or baby seats out in the rain!! and then actually looked as though I was asking for the fucking earth when I asked them for some tissue to dry them and then asked me 'what am I supposed to do with that' when I handed the silly cow the wet tissue back - find a bin or keep your eye on 3 small children and ensure that they don't cry or come to any harm was my sharp reply - GGGRRRR!!!!

I love sainsbury's the people are so nice and friendly and always ready to help (except in Eltham - Chislehurst or Sydenham is best) and am super glad to have found a huge huge sainsbury's down in Greenwich (well Charlton way!!) - DP says its too far but as is usually me and DD doing the shopping he won't have much say!!

dogwalker · 23/04/2004 17:12

L78, I had to return a scooter to Tesco, that was faulty (the scooter not Tesco although that's open to debate) We didn't have the receipt but we knew we had paid by credit card on one of 2 visits (it's a fairly new Tesco so we'd only been a couple of times) and they looked it up somehow from these amounts that were on my credit card bill. Luckily we'd got someone who knew what she was doing cos the first girl we saw on Cust Ser was rubbish.

Blu · 23/04/2004 17:15

Berrie, you don't have to pay, just fill in a form at customer services.

Twinkie · 23/04/2004 17:15

Pissed wth Safeway too - popped in their for a pack of baby wipes the other day and bought a CD for DP - Romantic Classicals - got it hame DD gave it to him and lo and behold ABBA Gold - FFS the CD was bright gold in colour did it not dawm on the stupid cow to actually check what was on it!!!!

hercules · 24/04/2004 09:36

they wont clamp if you dont have a badge from the club only if you dont have a young child with you. Dh is a manager for tescos.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2004 09:42

Tescos refunded me for the invisible nuts they subbed for my leeks BTW. Odd think is they've refunded more than I paid!

Worst for miserable staff HAS to be Co-op. I always want to shout at the assistants "FOR PITY'S SAKE SMILE! IT COSTS NOTHING!". Grrrr.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2004 09:43

I guess the idea behind the Tescos parking badges is that it makes it easier to spot who has a valid reason to park there. Don't Sainsbury's have them too? I've seen them on car windsreens in our area.

SEXGODDESS · 24/04/2004 10:01

Tescos have a policy if they overcharge you for something they refund the WHOLE amount and you get to keep the product. Bought my dd a pair of pjs a few years ago priced around £12 with 30% discount at the till they reduced them by 25% so I paid and took them straight to Customer Service.

I know that was a bit mean wasn't it...

SEXGODDESS · 24/04/2004 10:04

Also bought some Harry Potter stationary whilst on offer a couple of years ago thinking would be good to put aside for party presents etc. Bought about 4 of everything, folders, pens, pencil boxes, notebooks etc. as they were priced at 3 for 2. Got to the cash desk and they charged me for the full amount.... you can guess what happened next!
They did try to refund me only the difference until I pointed out THEIR policy.

lydialemon · 24/04/2004 23:10

Well I hate Sainsburys, but thats probably because I work for them, not shop with them!
