Drive illegally? Say for about 2 miles on your own when you haven't/hadn't passed your test?

OP posts:
Twinkie · 20/04/2004 14:57

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

It is illegal and dangerous.

roisin · 20/04/2004 14:57

No. Why?

marialuisa · 20/04/2004 14:59

'cos DH and i are having a heated email debate about it. I'm refusing point blank to drive DD home from swimming on my own so he can go straight to the pub. He thinks i'm paranoid, chances of anything happenng are zilch, I regularly drive over 100 miles with him sound asleep blah-di-blah. but I feel sick at the thought...

Absolutely, undoubtedly not. Suppose someone else ran into you and you had to swap details and the police got involved. Who would go to court - your dh? No, it would be you. Of course you mustn't and you know it. You are absolutely in the right.

chocbox · 20/04/2004 15:03

Even though I might be tempted, I would be frightened that I might have an accident or get stopped or something and you know ... sods law and all that - so no I wouldn't.

roisin · 20/04/2004 15:03

Have you got a date for your next test?

marialuisa · 20/04/2004 15:08

yeah, towards the end of may. Huge wait because I have to do it on a Saturday and we're off on hols next week.

I won't drive back, but you know sometimes when somebody else seems SO reasonable.....

No, no, no.

Bad bad Beety.

suzywong · 20/04/2004 15:11

if you injured anyone else during your trip you would be paying for it for the rest of your life.
And you may feel safe as houses but you never know what kind of idiots you are going to meet, even in 2 miles

bundle · 20/04/2004 15:12

most accidents happen on short trips. please don't.

marialuisa · 20/04/2004 15:23

Dilemma resolved, his mates's blown him out...

OP posts:
bundle · 20/04/2004 15:25

hurrahhhhh

kiwisbird · 20/04/2004 15:31

nope ;(
I used to though back in NZ when it wasn;t strictly illegal, but would never do so now

suedonim · 20/04/2004 16:49

No, no, no. There was a dreadful accident here at the weekend, when an unlicenced driver crashed into a bus and killed his two best friends. He's going to have to live with that for the rest of his life.

Erm no definatly not. Not really cos i think it would be dangerous, more that i'd be worried about getting caught.

islandgirl · 20/04/2004 21:25

No NO NO - imagine the worst that could happen.....
No No No

hercules · 20/04/2004 21:26

If you harmed someone and you had no insurance then that person would not be able to claim from your insurance for the things they would need. I'm sorry but a despicable thing to do although i know you didnt.

eddm · 20/04/2004 21:41

I was run over by an uninsured driver, which you would be if you hadn't passed your test. So I didn't have any redress. I was 'lucky' in that it was very slow speed ? he was just pulling out and looking at the traffic he was joining, not where he was going, clipped the kerb where I was waiting to cross. I was still thrown yards down the road. Tore all the ligaments in my ankle which was agony and took months to heal. Still weak on that ankle. Was pregnant at the time so a. terrified for baby (luckily was OK) and b. unable to take any decent painkillers. I was off work for 10 days, seriously disabled for at least six weeks, and unable to walk properly for longer than that. Had to get cabs to work ? at least my employers paid for them, if I had less helpful boss or was self-employed I would have been unable to work.
Please tell your dh from me he's an irresponsible idiot to even think about this ? and that's the polite version.

nikcola · 21/04/2004 00:14

nowway dont risk it tests have to be taken for a reason if you failed that means u need to retake it even though the test is so bloody hard, good luck with the next test

it's ok, i didn't.

And I failed because I had a major attack of nerves and couldn't reverse around a corner....that I reverse around every day!

OP posts:
aloha · 21/04/2004 12:58

Good luck with your test marialuisa! Glad it worked out.
Actually, I'm sure you would be safe, but I've had people go into the back of me at the lights and all sorts - and I would be so terrified of being found out under those circs. I would be so ashamed to be in court.

Rhubarb · 21/04/2004 20:52

Maybe in an emergency. BTW, when you said that you regularly drive with him asleep next to you, do you have an 'L' plate on your car?

Sorry to hear that you failed. I failed twice, all through nerves. Just don't give up.
