go to post office web site or phone them
on your recipt should be a number and that should result in telling you where the parcel is

You have the proof of postage, its down to royal mail really. You could send her a copy of the receipt to prove you did send it. Wont get her the item though.

so i don't have to give her the money back though

Was it a lot of money? If not I may be tempted to refund. I would try and trace the parcel if that is possible with just a till receipt first.

The post office will pay you compensation up to the value of £30.00, if you didn't pay for extra insurance.

It will really be your responsibility to refund and claim back from the post office, you can ring them for a form or collect one from the post office, for your own safety take a copy of your postage receipt

Hope this helps you a bit, this will save unwanted bad feedback or an ebay dispute.

Good luck.

Did they pay using paypal? If they did they can open a dispute with paypal. Unfortunately because you didn't send recorded or special delivery your buyer will win. Having proof of postage is not enough for paypal (as I found out recently) as it doesn't proove that anything was delivered only sent. I would keep the buyer sweet by telling them you will claim from Royal Mail.

When i offered to send the reciept the buying said oh don't worry the postman has stolen yet another one and said they would leave me good feedback? It wasn't expensieve
