How often do you NOT feel like a grown up?

Got to work this morning and realised there's a large hole in the seam of my dress. No emergency sewing kit, no safety pins to be found anywhere, so I've had to staple it closed until I get home (where I will promptly forget until the next time I wear it and have the same issue)

Feel like a child right now.

Oh god, all the time. I look at my dd and can't believe I'm responsible for someone that helpless, and old enough to be married and have made her. I'm almost 30!

SugarFreeGruffaloCrumble · 14/01/2015 12:56

And I've done the stapling clothes thing too, if that helps Wink

TeaAddict235 · 14/01/2015 12:59

I forget that I'm an adult when opposite the pick and mix shelves at Wilkos or Tescos Grin

...or when adding bubble bath Wink

MrsPurchase · 14/01/2015 13:01

Right now.
I have spilled my lunch on my top.
I am wearing odd earrings, and not ironically.
I seem to have only put on mascara on one eye but not the other.
I am in possession of a pair of sequin converse trainers that myself and an 11 year old girl both reached for in the shop with similar squeals of delight
I also regularly wear those socks with toes, IYKWIM
I am 4 in my 40s

ithoughtofitfirst · 14/01/2015 13:07

Whenever I get a little too into colouring with ds.

Whenever I forget to do something important I feel like I should grow up. But then remember that I'm only human.

Whenever I come over all emotional and need a cuddle. Or ring my mum for reassurance about something.

Plus I always get the urge to jump in a puddle so I just put ds in wellies in the rain and let him crack on. Jealous.

ithoughtofitfirst · 14/01/2015 13:07

Ps love this thread.

Mandy2003 · 14/01/2015 13:08

99% of the time! I am fifty-umm.

GothicRainbow · 14/01/2015 13:12

Usually when something tough comes along.

When my car was broken into, all I wanted to do was cry and call my mum!

Dealing with bills for gas, electric etc.

When i let the house work get out of control and my mum then comes to my rescue - makes me feel like a complete teenager again!!

HappyMedium · 14/01/2015 13:21

This morning, building a snowman.

SunnyBaudelaire · 14/01/2015 13:25

god most of the time actually; I had to leave the house this morning dressed in steel toe capped work boots, Bermuda shorts, and my son's parka, and then hitch to town.
OK I live in the middle of nowhere with cancelled bus services but still...

GooodMythicalMorning · 14/01/2015 13:32

All the time. Especially yesterday as im ill my mum cut my toe nails for me. and caught the skin

DrDre · 14/01/2015 13:37

Pretty much every day. I (with my colleague) sing silly songs at work etc Helps me get through the day!

threepiecesuite · 14/01/2015 13:39

About now really. DD at school so instead of doing housework, I'm watching Big Brother in my onesie eating Skittles and drinking Lilt. I'm having an ace day.

RiverTam · 14/01/2015 13:44

oh, all the time (I'm 43).

When I'm indulging in a teenage crush (constant).
When I can't have any kind of disagreement with DH without brooding like a teenager for ages (we're both a bit crap at that one!).
When I regularly fail to have any tissues on me.
When I realise that I'm dressed like a teenager (denim shorts with black tights).

etc. That's only the tip of the iceberg.

SoonToBeMrsB · 14/01/2015 13:49

I once used my straighteners to smooth out a peter pan collar on my dress. I don't iron Blush

I also feel like a total pleb when I have to go into Harvey Nick's for anything. I'm almost 25.

Skeppers · 14/01/2015 13:52

Forever.

I quite often have buffet food and Haribo for tea, just cos.
I own several pairs of Converse trainers (including sequinned ones...YAY!) and not a single pair of 'proper' shoes (ie. not trainers). Not one. Apart from flip flops.
I don't own a single set of matching underwear, and most of my pants have pictures of cartoon animals on them.
I own 3 colouring books. Grown up ones. I got one of them for Xmas as a secret Santa present. My other Secret Santa present was a My Little Pony keyring.
When I left my last job I got given a Halloween vampire cape as a leaving present because I said I always wanted one so I could "sweep dramatically out of the room after making a point".
I have My Little Pony and Adventure Time posters on my wall at work (plus a Stone Roses one to retain a shred of credibility)
My husband bought me a Dr. Who annual for Christmas. Our main present was a PS4 which we bought together.
We quite often have 'Disney Days' in the office at work where we find a 5 hour Disney playlist on Spotify and sing along all day.
When I got married, I walked down the aisle to a Muppets song.
My favourite film is Ghostbusters.
I giggled at the pictures of boobs in the Breastfeeding leaflet the midwife gave me earlier this week. She wasn't impressed.

These are literally the things I can think of right now. HOW AM I GOING TO COPE WITH A CHILD WHEN I AM BASICALLY ONE MYSELF?

I am 36 years old.

ClockwiseCat · 14/01/2015 13:53

All the time, mostly in a bad way Confused

Still, it does mean I enjoy snow, sweeties and imaginative play more than most adults which is a bonus for the DC :o

ClockwiseCat · 14/01/2015 13:54

Skeppers come and be my friend. It's you I want, honestly not your vampire cape, really, honest guv Wink

Skeppers · 14/01/2015 13:59

ClockwiseCat It's got a VELVET COLLAR Shock

penguinsaresmall · 14/01/2015 14:01

Most of the time Blush

I get more excited about Christmas/Halloween/Bonfire night than the DC..

I love loom banding and colouring-in.

I love going to the fair and screaming my head off on all the rides - and sulk when DH and the DC have had enough and want to go home.

I am generally quite silly and piss about a lot - I still feel like a kid inside most of the time (I always thought this was normal??!). But if something really serious and scary is going on I can be quite tough and very grown up Smile

MrsPurchase · 14/01/2015 14:09

Skeppers aha, so I'm not alone in the sequin converse? Never seen anyone else in them apart from 11 year old girls Grin

Skeppers · 14/01/2015 14:29

MrsPurchase I wore them on New Year's Eve. I bought them 'for special'.

(love your username, btw!)

MillionToOneChances · 14/01/2015 14:33

Quite often. Usually related to dating...

How often do you NOT feel like a grown up?
StarDustMonkey · 14/01/2015 14:49

May have to come and 'borrow' your cape Skeppers Grin you sound brill.

I think there is no way I can be considered and adult. I can't believe i have a degree and 2 kid + our new addition (puppy)!

Let see:
In bookshops I buy from the teenage section
I got an xbox for Christmas
I dress like my teenage sister
I'm still at uni (doing my MSc - but still!)
I have a 'welcome to the mad house' Joker canvas on my bedroom wall
I love my posters
I too have adult colouring books
I love punk rock music
I'm addicted to sweets
If I make myself beans on toast I break the bread apart into bite-size chunks just like my mum used too
I have a obsession interest in vampires, werewolves etc
I think I'm stuck in the 90's

That is just the tip of the iceberg

InanimateCarbonRod · 14/01/2015 14:52

Always. I feel that I should thoroughly embrace it however because it allows me to eat Nutella with a spoon and spend hours laughing at videos of people falling over on YouTube.

I'm ststl waiting to feel like a grown up!
