What makes you think less of someone in a totally totally irrational way?

Having just watched the end of the Channel 4 best albums of all time, dh and I were discussing how upsetting we find it if someone we love admits to liking U2 and how it devalues them in our eyes TOTALLY irrational I know

So...

OOH Caligula dp does that, it really pisses me off!

poptot · 16/10/2006 10:21

If their children wear coats with fur around the collar or hood, totally irrational I know.

Imascaryfairy · 16/10/2006 10:27

People who say "I would of done that" instead of "I would HAVE done that"
People who always say " and I" whereas sometimes it should be "and me" - for example, groom's speech "on behalf of my wife and I" and I just want to stand up and say "No no no - on behalf of my wife and ME"
People who park incorrectly - be in in M+T, disabled spaces
Actually, not too sure that's all irrational.....

purplemonkeydishwasher · 16/10/2006 10:30

people who swear at their children
or yell at them LOUDLY on the high street

Marina · 16/10/2006 10:35

People who describe things as pacific instead of specific
annnnndddd....one for ks...people who like Sting. Esp his lurvely new direction, bringing the music of John Dowland to the ignorant unwashed . The man is a blot on civilisation. You have to trawl through a lot of self-regarding dreck in his latest interviews to discover that a proper lutenist is plying on the fecking album, not Sting. He just sings [vomit]
Sorry ks, I do love you and I agree about Bon Jovi

A colleague was harmlessly listening to Radio 3 and nearly had a coronary Pruni. They devoted the entire programme to Mr Gordon Sumner's selfless attempts to uncover the barely-known works of Dowland. FFS

People who smack their children around the head - I HATE THAT SO MUCH.

Marina · 16/10/2006 10:40

That's your Secret Santa for the Surrey Mummies' Christmas bash sorted then ks
(I have a Guilty-Secrets style soft spot for Bono actually)

People who say 'nucular' instead of 'nuclear' and 'anenome' instead of 'anemone' (the latter includes my DH, btw).

Marina · 16/10/2006 10:46

We need an amalgam of vomiting and scepticism ks

Oh yes Sting.

And his tantric sex.

Oh no, that doesn't fit in this thread does it, because that is a perfectly reasonable, rational dislike.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 16/10/2006 10:48

Oh yes, and people who say 'Meshersmitt' instead of 'Messerschmitt'.

Zippetydoodahzippetyday · 16/10/2006 10:50

As I said on my other thread - I hate celebrities who "adopt" children from poor countries because it makes them "look good". Why not invest a couple of million into the country and buy a chihuaha instead????

emmatom · 16/10/2006 10:50

noisy eaters.

loud diners in restaurants.

Issymum · 16/10/2006 10:51

An Australian upward inflection in anyone who hasn't been living in Australia for at least a decade. Hate, hate, hate it in my sister who adopted it before she'd even got on the plane to emigrate but will tolerate it in my brother as he's lived there since the late 80s.

Smoking. I know it's a matter of free choice and that how you choose to abuse your health is an entirely an individual matter, but I still have to climb over my prejudice that a smoker is inherently stupid. I've achieved this and some of my 'best friends' are smokers. But not in my house!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 16/10/2006 10:52

People who say "Obviously" at the start of practically every sentence.

If they have really wonky/gnarly teeth.

People who have lots of facial peircings.

Eeek · 16/10/2006 10:59

anyone who uses aount when they should use number eg an amount of people. No - there'd 3 of them - a number! Includes lots of people who should know better eg BBC jounalists. Hate it!

lanismum · 16/10/2006 11:16

smokers

people that flick fag ash onto my baby in the street

people that hold their bags at toddler head level and seem to be blind when it comes to seeing small kids

cyclists

adults that scream blue murder when they see my mum walking her dogs.. they are yorkies!

stupid, long, possibly seasonal ringtones

robbie williams fans

lanismum · 16/10/2006 11:17

and my chemical romance fans
