Rugby is respectfully rough, but football is for downright thugs, right?

At least that's the conclusion I came to after spending this weekend watching DS (7) at rugby coaching, and then a 'football party'.

At rugby the kids made lots of noise, sure, were rough (but respectful of each other), played by the rules (mostly). In the clubhouse afterwards they were boisterous, but mostly polite and well-behaved.

At the football party a bunch of boys the same age were aggressive, rude, pushed and shoved the little ones (some only 4 ) and at the 'party tea' I couldn't believe my eyes... kids firing party poppers in each other's faces, pouring whole bowls of crisps onto their plates, throwing food and drinks around. It was like a zoo.

It may well be a controversial generalisation, but the two sports definitely encourage different attitudes don't they?

yes they do and I would much rather take my dd to a rugby match than a football match, actually wouldnt even entertain football match with her

EnidVorhees · 15/10/2006 21:50

eh?

wasnt one coaching and one a party?

QueenEvil · 15/10/2006 21:50

NOT TRUE!

When FA rules were first introduced, 11 of the 12 teams consulted agrred to the terms and conditions of the new rules to make the game safer and more fair.

The one team who would not agree to the rules were the one who formed the first rugby team and carried on their thug like ways on the rugger pitch instead!

Enid - well, the party had coaches there too, for the first bit, and the kids just seemed out of control.

Mind, I also think the parents of the party had some responsibility... too mant kids, not enough adults, and FFS who gives party poppers to hyped up 6 year olds?
