Saree or not saree - that is the question?

We've been invited to a Hindu wedding. I've checked that it would be OK for the dd's to wear Indian clothes.

When we went out to buy them though, I got utterly carried away by the beautiful sarees, and bought one for me to wear. Now I don't know whether what's OK for little girls, is equally Ok for their aging mum - or whether I'm going to be the worst kind of "wigger".

Anybody got any words of wisdom please?

Well I wore it, and really enjoyed myself. Had a couple of people say it looked nice, and an Anglo say it looked like I was wearing a toga (humph!) - well I am more to the Junoesque! A very nice Auntie helped me pleat the pallau when I got tired of the loose end being draped.

Lots of people said how nice the dd's looked - smug mother.

When I get photos I'll scan and post.

I agree, wear it! I went to a Hindu wedding in Delhi years and years ago and I wore one. Luckily my friends showed me how to put it on and everything.

For admirers of Indian fashion, I'd say test the water with a salwar (which is kind of like an east-meets-west garment). Check out www.kareenascloset.co.uk/ I recently hired a sari from them for a wedding, and they were really helpful as I didn't know the first thing about Indian fashion (I do now tho!).

I went to a fancy dress party once and I asked my Asian friend if she had a sari I could borrow and she said only old women wear them!
