roisin · 13/10/2006 20:04

pmsl at this thread btw. Ds2 had a narrow escape then - had he been a girl he would have been Roisin, or rather Roy-sin, or Rosin, or Rozin, or Raisin, or Raw-sheen, or Roy-Shaun, Roe-Sheen or whatever anyone happened to call him each time!

shhhh · 13/10/2006 21:07

roe sheen..I worked with a lady called this..Took me ages t work out how it was said let alone spelt..! .

moomooland · 13/10/2006 21:52

I'm from ireland and have heard name pronounced both roe sheen and rosheen!

moomooland · 13/10/2006 21:56

I'm from ireland and have heard name pronounced both roe-sheen and rosh-een so either probably right - you stress first syllable!

moomooland · 13/10/2006 21:57

Sorry!

expatinscotland · 13/10/2006 21:59

this is dd2's name. in honour of DH's beloved Nana.

she is a 'raw-sheen' - his Nana was from S. Ireland.

i hear N. Irish people say 'rosh-een', though.

she lives up to her name. she is a wee rose.

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 13/10/2006 22:01

In Ireland it is generally pronounced Roe Sheen but Rosheen is acceptable too.

expatinscotland · 13/10/2006 22:12

it's a brilliant name for a chubby love of a wee girl!

i'm glad we decided to call DD2 this.

DD1 has a Scots Gaelic name that suits her character as well.

cryptmonkey · 13/10/2006 22:21

I'm Irish and in the South it's pronounced Roe-sheen, in the North it's pronounced Rosh-een.

NannyStar · 14/10/2006 09:07

I am friends with a girl from Belfast and she pronounces her name - Rohsheen

nerdgirl · 14/10/2006 09:18

Another Irish Mumsnetter here, Cryptmonkey is spot on - Roe-sheen because the o should have a foda accent on it or Rosh-een if you're ignoring the foda (an Ulster derivation) but that's it. The Raw-sheens and Ros-ins etc. didn't come from this island!

curlysmum · 15/10/2006 21:51

Its my middle name , I love it! always causes confusion , but then my whole name is a bit odd, bit like Siobhan and other great Irish names

SoMuchToBats · 15/10/2006 22:01

Thank you. Now I won't embarrass myself if I meet an Eoin. We have friends whose dd is a Mairi (Scottish), and she gets called all kinds of things . It's "Marry"
