to a much loved nephew for a 21st or 18th birthday, how much would you give?

depends on your circumstances - personally, about £50.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 12/10/2006 09:40

£20 but thats my budget - depends what you can afford.

compo · 12/10/2006 09:40

£25

HuwEdwards · 12/10/2006 09:42

I am just remembering how many nephews I have and wish to revise my figure downwards accordingly - £25 tops!

busybusymum · 12/10/2006 09:43

I think it depends on the type of person he is? and what he may use it for?
Sounds mean I know but if he was planning on using it to buy something thats one thing adn I would give more but if he is likely to drink the lot I would give less as I wouldnt want to encourage that!

HTH

badkarma · 12/10/2006 09:44

He's much loved... yeah about £50. That's how much a good bottle of aftershave or something would cost anyway.

I got £100 on my 18th from my godparents, and nothing on my 21st as I was married by then!!

schneebly · 12/10/2006 09:44

about £20 - £21 is trad in Scotland (and maybe elsewhere) for a 21st.

schneebly · 12/10/2006 09:45

If I had more money and he was much loved I would give more.

mell2 · 12/10/2006 09:47

My nephew was 18 last year and we gave him £50 (I think, may have been £70) BUT we only have 2 nephews and the other one is nearly 30 now. It would make a difference if we had lots of nephews and neices!

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 12/10/2006 09:51

mmmmmm- i have 2 nephews. they were born on the same day and tomorrow, one will 18 and one will be 21. i love them to bits, especially the 21 year old because i was still so young when he was born and i used to babysit for him and take him out in his pram etc.i have just written cheques for £50 each for them and dh has gone absolutely loco! he said we haven't got £100 to give away and my nephews parents are much richer than us etc.

that's not the point to me. there are my nephews and i don't think £50 is too much for a special birthday.

so am i being unreasonable? or is he?

oh quite bad luck they have both come at once! Then again, you don't want them to receive less because they both fall on the same day. Difficult.

lemonaid · 12/10/2006 09:59

Partly depends on whether you do have the money. £50 each sounds reasonable to me but maybe not if you have to live on beans on toast for a month as a result.

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 12/10/2006 10:01

we won' have to live on beans on toast for a month. and we are always'skint' so it's not like it's anything special.

yes it's unfortunate that they are born on the same day, and guess what....????....they are brothers!!!!

My ds and my dd will be 18 and 21 3 days apart from each other!!!!

alexsCURSEDMUMMY · 12/10/2006 10:10

it'll be a heck of a party!
