For anyone interested I've just had a mailing from walkthewalk and the 10th Playtex Moonwalk is on 19th May 2007. Entries open on Monday 16th October 2006 - going live during office hours here

I've had a letter as well.....

I think I will be volunteering again...

LizP · 15/10/2006 18:06

I'm thinking about volunteering this year. What did you do ? Was it fun or just really hard to stay up all night ?

Yea!! After barely missing out on registration last year, (and being quite grumpy about it), I was determined not to miss out this year. I've just had my email confirmation that I am officially registered to take part!!

Any other Mumsnetters who'll be there as a participant or volunteer?

notasheep · 16/10/2006 14:18

I did the 26 miles in 2001
was a volunteer in 2006.

Its got too big in my opinion

Earlybird · 16/10/2006 14:21

Kind of like Mumsnet?

I know it's a massive number of people, and I may never do it again, but it's always appealed to me.

Any tips or insider info about how best to prepare, and how to make it enjoyable on the night?

notasheep · 16/10/2006 14:32

How fit are you?

I am one of those unpopular people who dont need to train much.My prep was one 10mile walk

Make sure you eat well before walk and have suitable attire for cold, wet night.I was sooooooooo lucky to walk on a warm night

Earlybird · 16/10/2006 14:38

I'll definitely need to increase my walking distances. At the moment, I aim for 10,000 steps a day (which is I think in the region of 35 miles per week), which is pretty good, but not nearly enough for this challenge.

What exactly is suitable attire for a cold, wet night? Can you tell I'm new to this?

How annoying! I wasn't expecting the applications to be ready before November. Need to call my two mates and see if we're doing it this year like we planned. Then I have to hope we get a spot.

The Moonwalk is wonderful.

loujay · 16/10/2006 14:59

I did it in 2005 and it was a fantastic night...oping to be a volunteer next year as will hopefully be PG and unable to walk 26 miles

Earlybird · 16/10/2006 15:15

Marslady - I was determined not to miss out, so have been checking the website periodically for a few months now. The walk is much earlier this year (19 May), so I suppose it follows that registration is earlier. Could make the possibility of dodgy weather more likely though.

loujay - let me know if you volunteer, so I can watch out for you!

Wonder if Posey is going to do it this year? Maybe she and I can do some long awaited/much talked about training sessions in Regent's Park!

MarsLady · 16/10/2006 16:12

Spoken to mates and yes we will be applying! So fingers crossed etc.

cadbury · 16/10/2006 16:19

Sadly I shall be still nursing stitches and dragging my pelvic floor behind me on a cart so I doubt I'll be able to but the year after . . .

notasheep · 16/10/2006 21:33

Earlybird-Moonwalk will prob provide an astronaut looking foil cloak which isnt very user friendly.
A decent sweatshirt you can wrap round your waist, and a very lightweight waterproof jacket with hood-if you get cold and damp walking 26 miles will be ugh!!!!!!!!!!!

MumRum · 17/10/2006 08:59

they do supply plastic kagools with hoods for if it rains....

will you be volunteering again Notasheep

notasheep · 17/10/2006 13:01

need to sort out new job, purchase house and relationship with dp then after all that i may volunteer
