Fantastic - can?t wait to tell my sister this one - she had a run in with a prissy GP?s receptionist the other day and was almost in tears over it. Thanks

fimbles · 17/04/2004 10:51

yes, why are the majority of them so stuck up and they they are sooo important? dh and myself have had PLENTY of run-ins with ours.

I can't believe they actually ask what the medical problem is though. What business is it of theirs? I would refuse to answer esp in the reception area.

Angeliz · 17/04/2004 12:50

LOL, we were gonna complain about the receptionist at the ante natal centre but i was worried incase i bumped into her in labour!!!!
What a COW!!!!!!!!!!

Nice one twiglett

bossykate · 17/04/2004 13:45

lol!

we are soooo lucky with ours. there are two of them and they are both fab.

insanidee · 17/04/2004 16:29

wikked!!

had loads of run ins with the old receptionist when we used to live in stevenage (anyone who knows the hyde surgery which has now closed may know who i mean). there was one of them who used to tell the kdis to behave or else she's get her stick and hit them (so many mothers used to have a goat her for that), the time she was on the phone to a paitent telling them the doctor wouldnt come out to do an enema.

but the one that got my dh mad was a few months after he had become ill. he went for a flu jab, which he has to have. he asked where to go for the flu jab. the receptionist told him it was down the hall but he wasnt allowed to have one. a row started between my dh and the receptionist, the gp came out to see what was going on. she said 'this young man is asking for a flu jab but he isnt entitled to one, its for elderly and at risk groups'. the gp replied, 'yes he is, let him thro'. stupid moo. like its any of her business anyway!!

nikcola · 18/04/2004 00:08

Ghosty · 18/04/2004 01:46

Twiglett ...

I thing doctor's receptionists are a 'species' in their own right .....

brilliant... i may even go and wake dh to tell him this one!

eidsvold · 18/04/2004 10:29

what a laugh !! Our last gp's receptionist / clinic sister was brilliant.... although sometimes patient confidentiality was not her strong point - for example telling some very pregnant woman - to look at my dd - you would never have guess she had open heart surgery a few weeks before - was not a good idea. The poor woman looked horrified - I could see her thinking what if that happened to my baby. SHe was however, very practical and helpful. New receptionist - not the best.......

Having said that - Gp's can be worse - like the one who refused to say whether my dd had chicklen pox when she had been sent home from nursery with a few spots ... I did smile when two days later we had to take her back to the doc's covered in pox - in her mouth, eyes etc... I could not help myself and asked him if he could say for sure now that she had chicken pox...... Strange that a nursery nurse can say it is chicken pox and not a GP?!?!

mistresswobblyknicks · 18/04/2004 10:35

PMSL -

At ours you can't make an appointment, the GP has to ring you back to do it so the receptionists have no need to know what's wrong, but they still insist!!! Usually drives me mental but it gave me a laugh a couple of weeks ago when dd was constipated and I told the receptionist (who's a nasty cow) PRECISELY what was wrong when she asked. Hopefully she won't be asking me again.

marthamoo · 18/04/2004 10:37

Something that really pees me off about the receptionists at my surgery: when I ring for an appointment and I want one that day they always ask me what the problem is, when dh rings they just make him an appointment. Is it because a man ringing up must really need to see the doctor whereas a woman is probably just being a hypochondriac?

I rang up one morning and said I needed to see the GP that day and the receptionist was so snotty with me "well, we are closed for staff training this afternoon and we are fully booked up this morning, we really don't have anything, unless it's an absolute emergency, blah blah...do you HAVE to see the GP TODAY?"

"Yes," I said "I had a miscarriage last night."

That shut her up.....

wobblyknicks · 18/04/2004 10:38

Note to self - always remember to change name back the morning after!!

wobblyknicks · 18/04/2004 10:41

Sorry mm - poor you! At least she might have learnt now not to be so snotty.

marthamoo · 18/04/2004 10:42

I think MistressWobblyknicks is an excellent name....especially for flirting

wobblyknicks · 18/04/2004 10:50

mm - did you read the thread from last night?? Lou is a very bad mother, I'm obviously going right off the rails.

coppertop · 18/04/2004 10:53

wobblyknicks · 18/04/2004 10:54
