what is it a film, play? haven't heard of it

Wilbur · 08/10/2006 20:23

Going to see it Nov 3rd with a gang from college - can't wait, friend of ours is in it. Glad to hear it's good.

Marina · 08/10/2006 20:26

We were wondering why the Python night on the BBC last night, and the penny's now dropped. Had't realised it was previewing already .
I think ds might enjoy it - is there any rudery CD - additional to the film?
SEastra, it is the musical version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
The only dilemma is - see it now with gorgeous Tim Curry or see it later when equally talented Simon Russell Beale takes over...

Wilbur · 08/10/2006 20:33

I enjoyed that Python thing last night, Marina - watched a fair bit. Dh just sat there sniggering before the punchline every time and the friend we had over thought he had utterly lost the plot.

Marina · 08/10/2006 20:36

If you couldn't be at the previews like some I felt it was a good Saturday night option too Wilbur. Was amazed to be reminded The Meaning Of Life won prizes at Cannes. Have to say The Life of Brian is still my favourite
So, is your college pal famous, like, or is he slapping a bass in the orchestra pit

sammac · 08/10/2006 20:40

I saw it in New York at Easter and thought it was great too. Even if you're not a huge fan (which loads of the audience clearly were) it's really enjoyable.

Wilbur · 08/10/2006 20:52

He's getting famous ! He's one of the leads in Spam and has been in a fair few tv things and films. I haven't heard him sing since he did Hair at Uni, but clearly his voice has held!

Marina · 08/10/2006 20:53

Hair Now that could do with a revival too!

motherinferior · 08/10/2006 20:59

'The nudity is stunning', said the first review of Hair, didn't it?

DP wants to see Spamalot, which is actually a bit of a cultural breakthrough for him what with being in a real theatre and all. His last outing of the sort was The Producers.

Wilbur · 08/10/2006 21:00

Yes, it's great, and I'm pretty sure that production went for the full-frontal nudity option. Drama students, eh?

GreenSlashedSleeves · 08/10/2006 21:00

Oh I wish I could go and see it. I idolise Simon Russell Beale, he is amazing.

Wilbur · 08/10/2006 21:01

Post-crossed! Hello MI - how are you?

Marina · 08/10/2006 21:04

Ha, I have ROW E tickets to see SRB do his stuff in The Alchemist in November and I cannot wait [drool]
We regularly see out student actors bounding in and out of dressing rooms in their chuddies wilbur - one of the major perks of my job. Genius architect to put them next to the library's glass wall

Marina · 08/10/2006 21:04

Indeed hello MI - fancy seeing you on a thread that has degenerated into talk of male nudity

Wilbur · 08/10/2006 21:12

Oh yes, whoops. And there was countessdracula just trying to raise the tone of MN tonight with thoughts of the thea-tuh.

So between mumsnetting and gazing at naked youths, do you get any work done, Marina?

Fauve · 08/10/2006 21:15

Could I echo Marina's question - would it be Ok for my kids aged 8 and 12 (how old is your ds, Marina?)? They're already big Monty Python fans, and I really would like to take them.

Marina · 08/10/2006 21:15

some Wilbur. Fortunately a lot of my job involves me sitting at a desk with a cheerful, welcoming smile on my face, and the view and Mn definitely help there

Marina · 08/10/2006 21:17

Ds is seven Fauve, and I wondered if he would like it after he fell about laughing at the repeated "knight jumps out of bush and hacks off other knight's arm" encounters in Roger Lancelyn Green. I think he would love the Knights Who Say Ni, for example.

Wilbur · 08/10/2006 21:17

Ah, fair enough! Well, I shall look forward to my Spam outing even more now. Off to watch jane Eyre. Ta ta.

Fauve · 08/10/2006 21:22

Yes, mine began with the knights who say Ni. They've now watched quite a lot on video - sometimes I fret about suitability, but they seem to be OK

mamamaaargh · 09/10/2006 02:37

Ooo, saw it on Broadway and loved it! Don't know who's in the London version though. Would love to see it again and I don't usually apprecaite Monty Python!

Fauve · 09/10/2006 09:14

So would it be suitable for kids aged 7, 8, 12? Mamaaargh? CD?

CountessDracula · 09/10/2006 09:39

Well there were kids of that age there. I would say it is suitable.

Tim Curry was fab, I love SRB too, I think either would be fine.

I've just ordered box set of MP for ds1 who's 8, as he's 9 at the end of the month. I fancy taking him to see the show. Ds2 is 6 but tbh he 'gets' a lot of humour that he shouldn't so would probably like it too? Kids these days eh?

Fauve · 09/10/2006 10:32

Thanks, CD, will definitely take my two, then
