lulunaticmama · 07/10/2006 21:35

and agree with gobbledispook - it's plain rude to pick up on it, especially when it is used as an insult...

misdee · 07/10/2006 21:37

nope i cannot spell!

i don't have Dyslexia as i was tested for this as a child but i just cannot spell.

i can read the word spelt correctly and 5 minutes later will use and mispsell it.

I get quite paranoid that people will consider me stupid becasue of it and the recent post has confirmed that for me.

but hey ho.....im a chav anyway so may as well be a thick chav

It is akin to being corrected in public for the wrong pronounciation and a colleague several years ago liked doing this to me several times a week: rather humilating and condscending (and no doubt Ive spelt half of this wrong). Im awful at grammer , had terrible problems at school ,all due to confidence and lack of it. I always apologise for spelling & grammer , but its a shame that content rather than application (for want of a better phrase), is not what's seen as important.

melsy, i have to correct my dd2 as part of her speech therepy, but we have to do it in a subtle way as she has low confidence and wont talk at all. so its a case of repeating things back the correct way.

I can spell quite well, and did do rather well in english at school. I am just a lazy typist.

Thats different in a way ,as you are doing so to help & aid. My dd3 mispronounces words and I find that quite cute and adorable, but I repeat the word back correctly to teach her the right way of saying it , but I then miss her way of saying it !!!!!(I used to write down her misprounciations as they are nice to remember).

I don't care whether posters can spell or not - as long as we get the gist of it. Overly long paragraphs do make reading hard - particularly as it's usually the tough subjects that require so much text.

And as for the 'do you have to swear, we are all educated ladies' - well, who says we are! It's an open forum and one doesn't needs ones Finishing School Diploma to register.

I think correct grammar and puncuation are very important in a work situation - and very unimportant on MN and in casual communication to friends.

FreakyFloss · 07/10/2006 22:31

i reserve full right to typing without caps and making typos atm as i only have one arm. i can use a thumb on occaisions but only when really necessary as it means lifting arm and cast of back of the sofa and i'll be blown if i can be arsed. everything else in life is taking twice as long as usual for me to do and typing on mn shouldn't! rant over. aaaaaaaaahhhh [ sigh of relief].
