When my DS 4.5 is tired or within 30 mins of him waking up he us so grumpy that he barely talks, he points and grunts, although the rest of the day he is perfectly happy and communicative. He does this regardless of having 8 hours or 12 hours sleep. Do yours little darling have any habits.

My dd is 5 and has always been good, gets alittle grumpy now and again, but she tends to fall asleep anywhere, she's been known to fall asleep while walking next to me, lol. My ds who is 4, gets really whiney, and clingy but insists that hes not tired. He has(or though he hasn't done it recently) the awful habit of waking up really early like at 5am, i think once he has been known to get up at 4am, and once he's up thats it there;s not going back. so by 6pm the that day he is shattered. and you think to yourself, if you didn't get up so early you wouldn't be so tired. thats life i suppose. But at 4am your thinking. GRRRRRRRR. lol

As soon as DD (19 months) is tired and ready for bed she becomes a little destructive monster. Allo her toys get thrown everywhere, dvd's out of cupboard, generally anything she can get her little paws on!

But as soon as you say 'are you tired, do you want to go to bed?' she nods and says 'milk' so after that bedtime is (usually) quite easy.

my 2 still don't recognise it as being tired.
dd -8- either says she feels 'sad for no reason' or she thinks she is poorly.
ds -5- just goes floppy!

My dd is fantastic when she wakes up but when she gets tired before bed she gets a bit moody and you daren't look at her !! (and God forbid you try to help her do anything ...'I CAN DO IT ALL BY MYSELF!!!'

(I am the other way round and HATE getting up, infact windypops, i am just like your little boy pointing and grunting for the first half hour)

DS, 2.75, goes frantic fighting it. His main tactic is to throw himself on the bed and do 'acrobatics', head down, bottom in air and lifting alternate arms and legs while balancing on his head. It drives me bananas.

DS (20 months) gets hyper silly and giggly. We call it his evil giggle. He'll laugh at anything and it's very difficult to calm him down to sleep once he reaches that point.

Hulababy · 15/04/2004 09:55

My just 2yo DD gets a bit weepy/grumpy when over tired.

Thomcat · 15/04/2004 10:02

Most of the time, not all, but mostly when l is tired she does the sleep sign, and then if you don't notice straight away she starts saying 'up up' and 'bed' and 'night night' (whatever time of day). however if we're out and she gets tired she whinges a lot and gets grumpy and very obviously overtired iykwim by that.

I have to say when she first wakes up she is absolutley gorgeous, full of smiles and chatty etc, not at all like me or her dad!! The reason i know she's woken up most of the time is because I can hear her laughing, bless her cotton socks

throckenholt · 15/04/2004 13:50

mine tend to get hyperactive, less tolerant and bad at taking direction

marialuisa · 15/04/2004 13:58

DD gets very oversensitive or will insist that she's my baby, "I can't do that, i'm only a baby". Oddly enough the rest of the time she is little Miss Independence. 3 year olds, love em.

motherinferior · 15/04/2004 14:13

If I'm lucky DD1 keels over with her thumb in her mouth. If I'm not, she starts whingeing and stropping.

DD2 sticks her thumb in her mouth and wails pathetically.

I'm vile when tired too. Which means most of the time, at the moment

PopeyesPiece · 15/04/2004 14:17

When dd, 18 months, wakes up we can hear her singing and gurgling up the corridor which I LOVE to listen to as it sound so cute. Bedtime varies from whinging to pointing at the stairs and saying bye (after waving at ceebeebies and doing the singsong of course).

emmatmg · 15/04/2004 14:30

One word.............unbareable!!!!!

Evita · 15/04/2004 14:45

Dd either goes totally floppy when tired and puts soft things on the floor to rest her head on and lies down or she goes the other way and turns manic, giggling and racing round in circles. The latter is harder to deal with as it's hard to wind her down, it's like she's got ants in her pants.

Bugsy2 · 15/04/2004 16:31

DS also 4.5 is vile. Behaviour goes completely to pot, tantrums, negative response to all reasonable requests. He is exactly the same when hungry too!
DD is 2 and much easier, goes very floppy, lots of eye rubbing and when really pushed just wants to be held. Also seems to hold it together much better when hungry. Maybe its a boy / girl thing
