Can you elaborate on 'without brain damage coming into it' ?

Do you mean to explain the CP without the concept of brain / brain damage ?

I would try something like 'we all need oxygen to breathe, right, and when you're inside your mummy, before you're born, you get the oxygen from your mummy. Well, when my sister was born she got stuck / couldn't breathe when she came out (or whatever happened to his sister) and because of that she didn't have any oxygen for ages and without oxygen our bodies get damaged.'

(type of thing)

hth ?

possibly some of the SN posters have been in similar situations and can post more helpful explanations suitable for children of different ages ?

2shoescreepingthroughblood · 05/10/2006 22:15

he is 14 he knows that she didn't breathe when she came out.
just need to wrap it up in science terms as the problem is occuring in science lesson.
I have taken the teacher to task over it as the kids were out of order but need to find a way for him to answer and blind them with science.

(Sorry, thought he was younger).

Did she not breathe because of a wound cord, or some other reason ?

How about:

All our organs need oxygen to do their job. We normally breath in oxygen through the lungs where it is picked up by the blood. The blood then carries it to all the important organs, like the brain. Because she didn't breath her blood couldn't get any oxygen so couldn't take it to the brain. Because her brain didn't have any oxygen for a little while it stopped working properly/parts of it died.

Too complicated? You might be able to refine it though for hius understanding.
