Our DD is in reception at a very good primary school. We are now in the process of buying a house 5 miles from the school (shared ownership opportunity, hence having to move to next town). We are more than happy for her to continue at this school until the end of year 6. Trouble is the new house is in a different catchment area (by a tiny margin - it's right on the edge of the line) from what I can see on the council website. There's only one secondary school in both our current catchment area, and the one we will be moving to. Both seem fairly good, but the majority of her friends will be going to the secondary in our current area, because of it's proximity to the primary school she is at. Does anyone know if because she is at a feeder school for our currently local secondary, she may be able to attend that one, instead of the one closest to our new house?

You need to look at the admissions criteria for both schools. Are you in Scotland? Because in England on the whole "catchments" don't really exist.

you have to call your council and they will advise you.
problem is catchment areas can vary from year to year so what is true this year might be completely different by the time you need to apply for secondary.
that's in 7 years time, you can not predict what secondary will be available to you then anyway - they might increase in take or heck build a new one or close down current one.

you have to decide if you're ok with "let the chips fall" or not.

and don't follow friends. friends come and go and whatever suit them might not suit your child anyway.

good luck, I'd go with house move and hope for the best.
