Ideas for presents

We're going to visit family in Israel soon, and need ideas for presents for the children. There are 7 of them in two families, ranging from about 12m to 8y. The parents have sent us so many lovely things for our two that we want to reciprocate, but need inspiration - what can we bring that's nice, not too expensive, and will transport easily?

Any notions?

What sort of things, vaguely? Lego is the obvious, as you could get age-appropriate stuff. For older girls I would recommend something like Feltkids (like fuzzy felt but more elaborate) or Ello and for older boys or girls maybe Geomag?

Fuzzyfelt type things - that's a good idea. What are Ello and Geomag? Lego might be a bit bulky for the suitcases.

My cousin has sent us some super music videos that ds adores, despite not understanding a word of Hebrew! I had thought maybe something along those lines. Not Tweenies, but real people singing and dancing in English.

I can't link directly to the right pages because of the way the site works, but if you put any of those names I mentioned into this site you'll get a range of things to see. Videos are a good idea- in Scotland there are groups called the Happy Gang and the Singing Kettle that do videos like that, but not sure if they're well known in England.

Geomag is great - both my boys ages 6 and 3 love it and you can get all different sizes of sets.

Tamum, I had a look at Singing Kettle on Amazon, and it sounds spot on. But when I try to find Happy Gang all I get is a Snoopy video? Also, searching that toyshop for Ello gets me over 100 items begining with a yellow scooter for about £150 - can you give me more detail please so that I can search for it? Thanks.

You can buy Geomag on Ebay for a lot less than retail prices. Boxes are brand new & sealed.

tamum · 14/04/2004 19:06

Sorry about that, I went out and only just remembered to come back to this. The Happy Gang have their own website here where you can order videos. I had forgotten about Ello and searching- you're right, you get everything they sell that is yELLOw, don't you. There are some Ello sets on the Woolworths website, but I'm sure you can get smaller, cheaper ones than this.

It's certainly worth looking on eBay for Geomag, it can be cheaper, but it's definitely worth getting the real thing. There are quite a few variations on it that are nowhere near as good as real Geomag. Hope that all helps!

Umm don't want to stick my beak in, but as a parent who has had to watch the Singing Kettle many times DON'T DO IT

Flip · 14/04/2004 19:28

Make sure you keep the geomag in your hand luggage if you buy some. It will probably trigger their security checks.

beyblades?
small to pack and great for 8 year old boys

bionicles reduced at the moment

are they boys?

Lets see now, I think it's

one family:
girl 7
boy 5
2 girls 1.5

and the other family:
boy 5
girl 2
girl 1

And I think I might just go for the Singing Kettle - the revenge of a parent who has had to watch Pim Pam Pom and Dig Dig Doog many times!
