£10 !!! That's a bit steep! Can you just ask them to confirm that its definitely yours without having a copy? Would they charge for that?

Could the cheque be for cash?

I think £10 is very steep to clarify something. When was cheque presented? Aren't cheques kept at your branch for a short time so if it wasn't long ago maybe you should make an appointment to go in and look at actual cheque instead of receiving a copy of it in 6 weeks. If the cheque has been paid fraudulently they have to reimburse your account. Are you able to kick up a stink about bank charges/profits/executives salaries etc. A pal of mine works for a bank and is paid £48k with massive bonus and expensed car etc. She is in management but not branch based.

Have you not written anything on the cheque stub? Check the ones on either side, it might jog your memory or at least give you an idea when it was supposed to be written. I am the worlds worst at keeping track of cheques, but £100 is a lot to lose!

Maybe if you tell them you think it's fraudulent then they might be a little more helpful?!

Good luck in sorting it Twiglett.

Oh that's annoying isn't it? I've done the same recently, thought nah, can't have been me, I NEVER write cheques, must be fraud and then realised it was me, I'd just forgotten. Could it have been plumber, fees, a shop that didn't take cards, mail order or a deposit for something? If you wait maybe it'll come to you. (she says, sounding like her mother!)

My sister (works for a bank) says to ask them to tell you who it was written out to. Also ask them to check the signature against the one of yours they have on file. Her bank only charges £4 to send out a copy. Seems your bank is a bit extortionate on charges.

Can see why you hadn't written that on the stub!
