feel a bit bad about typing this knowing that some people cant get housed for love or money.
we recently moved to a masionette which has 2 flights of stairs. dh is struggling to climb the stairs some days due to his heart condition. he has also just been awarded DLA. so do we go and ask for a bungelow and move again, have moved so much, the kids may have to be moved from schools if get rehoused in a different area, but i know there are many bungelows being built by HA in the area, which are due to be finsihed in around 4years. if we get one of the newer esates in the next town it woyuld also place closer to the hospital and better schools. but its the thought of moving home again, just makes me so unsure.

Can understand your worries. If you know that there are bungalows being bulit nearby then you really need to get applying straight away as most will of been allocated before they are even finished.
Can i ask howcome you werer given the masionette with your Dh's condition ?? That seems a strange thing to do. Did they not know about it??

the masionette is in my sole name as me and dh had seperated for 18months. he offically moved in after i moved here, but he has only just admitted he is finding the stairs a problem. he soliders on as much as possible but i can see a day when he wont be able to walk up but crawl up. the proposals for the new places has only just gone thro, its on a school site, the school is still there atm as the new one across the road isnt built yet, so i know it will be a fair few years b4 they would be ready anyway.

it would also be nice to have a garden.

The first thing you need to do is try to find out who is building the bugalows and which H/A will be letting them.
I would apply for one even if you are not sure you want to move. You can always change your mind.
How many kids do you have ???
Thoretically speaking you should be able to get one easily i think. Where abouts are you ??

its misdee btw. i'm in herts, all i have to do is go to the council and re-aply, fill in medical form, and they will refer me to the HA's here. its just the thought of packing up again and moving on. i stil have boxes unpacked under the stairs from when i moved 2years ago. got 2 kids, so would really like to stay in a 3bed place, as was in 2bed flat b4 and it was small. am used to the space. god i sound so ungrateful when i know u are struggling with 2 kids in a 2bed.

Is there any chance of getting assistance to fund a stairlift for your dh??

insanidee · 13/04/2004 08:54

stairlift wont reaslly work, asd to get from the carpark to the front door there is a small flight of steps, then to get to the living area is a full flight of stairs. I have just phoned the housing team, they are sending the forms out in the post so will hopefully get them tomorrow, i trhink the medical team assess the forms at the end of the month so will get them back asap. feel so bad about all this, but to see my dh exhausted and sweating buckets to get up to the living room is awful. since the xmas flu he has been weaker and is finding it harder.
