Hi there!

I have been mning for about 6 months now since ttc and am now nearly 20 weeks pg. I read mumsnet everyday and really enjoy the threads, the arguments, the jokes etc. I post on a lovely ante-natal thread and the ladies there have been really supportive - much easier to "talk" to than those in RL.
I've changed my name a couple of times. Once to ask a personal health question and then back to the original and then more recently to PlumpBump for a more permanent change (I fancied a change and let the ante-natal girls know, but was also slightly paranoid that it was too similar to RL).
I've posted on a fair few threads with fairly uncontroversial postings.
So, that's me. Probably like many others. But I am nervous about posting a stronger opinion, wondering when I might start to become a recognised regular poster and feel awkward when trying to join in conversations with those who are so clearly established. I don't want to be accused of being a troll, or trying too hard. I've read posts which I felt were heartfelt but have seen lots of signs. I totally understand that odd people do come on and make up lies, but what about those of us that don't.
Is it just me - does anyone else feel like this or am I just being pg hormonal?
How does the average newbie MNer go from Troll to Stalwart?

errrrrrr, no I was just joshing with plumpbump because she was claiming not to be naive....
me and hunker are messing wtih you plumpbump. you are officially no longer a newbie

Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:30

See now, Nannyme, there's my point!!! Hunker said

"Hiya PB - I'm a bit of a newbie and don't post much, so I'm not sure I can be much help to you."

Yet, I'd seen her name round to which I stated I thought she'd been here yonks! That's the problem - I don't always "hear" the right tone or pick up on "in jokes". Argh!!!

OP posts:
shhhh · 30/09/2006 22:31

piff you and me both. Too trusting imo..!
TBH I never think into to much details about what people post..defo to trusting.! I just read and reply if need be. Mmmm maybe I need to think more.

Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:32

Am feeling warm glow at being butt of stalwartian joke!

Emskilou · 30/09/2006 22:33

She used to get in touch, via text, quite a few times a day and I have heard nothing since also thinking back to some of the things she said to me just did not add up at all, I would ask how/where the baby was and she would say oh mums taken her shopping for the day,or her bf had taken out for the day or she would say the the baby just laughed and made a cute da da sound. At the time I thought 'ah how sweet' but then thought hang I had 2 full term babies and at that age the noises they were making were crying, grunting and quite often farting. With hindsight, what a wonderful thing, none of it added up at all and if indeed she was genuine I am sure she would have explained it all to me. oooh have I rambled on and hijacked this thread?? sorry plumpbump x

nannyme · 30/09/2006 22:33

Yep. If you are a naive, like me then you will be sniggered at quietly all the time here for in-jokedness is in abundance. Just grow a thick skin too - not much is meant harshly I think.

Piffle · 30/09/2006 22:33

just as well plump bump with most of hunkers posts you need tena lady pads as she can make you laugh in the least unladylike of ways...

Piffle · 30/09/2006 22:33

most unladylike of ways... I meant

harpsichordcarrier · 30/09/2006 22:34

darling, we are taking the piss.
it is a sign of our affection
when we are polite to you, then you must start to worry

WaitingForGodKnows · 30/09/2006 22:34

Hinker is a lot of things, but deffo not a newbie...

Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:34

Tis interesting part of discussion Ems, not hijack.

OP posts:
nannyme · 30/09/2006 22:35

how the hell would someone get ANYTHING out of going to those sorts of lengths on a wind up.

That's one thing I feel about trollishness - maybe by replying we help SOME people in a way - because they are lonely, crave attention, need someone to talk to? I dunno. Maybe replying to trolls isn't all bad.

Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:36

Well, I have arrived then!

OP posts:
shhhh · 30/09/2006 22:36

like you said, didn't sound like behaviour of someone who had a newborn. Christ dd is 16 months and has NEVER left my side..! As for my mum OR bf taking her shopping . WTF..!!!

Oh well youlive and learn. Same though as obviously it makes you less trusting and less willing to help others out iywkim.

Sorry plumpbump as well...Didn't mean to be rude..

Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:37

Without going into detail, did anyone follow the threads by the same poster re possibly being pg then awaiting results?

I thought that one real?

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 30/09/2006 22:38

Piffle, you're too kind.

Agree with your stance on chocolates in bed in the afternoon not being a guilt thing, btw

PB, I only take the piss out of people I think can take it.

Actually, that's a lie too. But in this instance, it is true

shhhh · 30/09/2006 22:38

i agree nanny..I don;t see her as a troll or a sad individual BUT someone who needed help. I said that at the time when lots of mner's said She was obviously a sandwich short of a picnic and needed help.

Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:39

See, Shhhh, I don't think that's rude - if we were sat in a pub chatting round a table, it would be natural. And I am trying to ascertain the identity of the troll to some degree, whilst desperately trying to climb the MN ladder of notoriety!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
shhhh · 30/09/2006 22:41

pb, I think she was genuie but didn't fully understand the workings of mn hence she posted many many times.

I think she was desperate. Duno maybe she isn't but I feel her "topic" wasn't such a unlike kats iykwim.

So go on...you are going to tell us now that that mner was you.. ..!!!!

shhhh · 30/09/2006 22:41

stop climbing.!!

Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:42

My grammar is far superior, I'll have you know!!!! I read them and finally posted on last one asking on Monday if she'd got her results back.

OP posts:
Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:45

Sadly due to my lack of strong opinions on Fruit Shoots, Breastfeeding or the Vulva versus Twinkle debate, I won't be notorious!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe when I'm a mum, these things will kick in....

OP posts:
hunkermunker · 30/09/2006 22:45

Oh, they will.

When are you due?

Plumpbump · 30/09/2006 22:50

I am 19 weeks, due end of Feb. Feels like ages to go!!!

OP posts:
Nemo1977 · 30/09/2006 22:52

Dont know why but I never worried about being thought to be a troll when I posted for first time. Not a stalwart either am a middle of the line hooked mner who doesnt get to post as much as she lurks thanks to children usually hanging form my neck..lol

Congrates on your pg and am sure much more opinionated behaviour will follow with the birth of your child...it did for me
