No, lieman,

DD1 started aged 4, now they're 4 & 5 and starting with a new pal. So, all's different, and I hope they'll be awake enough. It is blooming expensive though - £85 per term for each of them - how does that compare??

3GirlsMum · 10/04/2004 00:04

What about hairspray?

lieman · 10/04/2004 00:08

I STARTED BY PAYING £4 A SESSION WHICH WAS FINE. BUT NOW SHE HAS TO GO TO A TRAINING CLASS AS WELL WHICH COSTS ANOTHER £4 A WEEK AND FOR EVERY DANCE SHE DOES AT THE FESTIVAL I HAVE TO PAY THE TEACHER £40 PER DANCE(SHE IS DOING 6)THEN THERE IS FESTIVAL FEES £3 PER DANCE X 3 FESTIVALS AND THEN THERE IS COSTUMES WHICH I'VE BEGGED STOLE & BORROWED BUT STILL ENDED UP PAYING £150+ NEVER MIND ALL THE SHOES. EXAMS COST ME ANOTHER £150. THE SOONER SHE GETS FED UP AND WANTS TO PLAY FOOTBALL THE BETTER.

THE SCARY BIT IS MY DS(4) SEES HER DANCING AND WANTS TO GO!!!!

lieman, that's far, far too much. Even by Oxford's standards. Contaact meeeeee .. via anothor. I think you're getting ripped off

i live in northern ireland and the next closest dance teacher is about 35mile away though i don't know what she charges so i'm pretty tied to this one.

the pressure is mounting - festival starts on tuesday and i'm still sewing!! what a way to spend your Easter holidays

A 'training' class? Festivals?? WTF? She's only four, and she doesn't need all this. It sounds as if it is compulsory and that's wrong. At four a ballet class should be just an introduction to ballet, with a class and some movement with maybe a little part in a christmas or summer show - not all this nonsense and expense. It sounds ghastly - perfect for pushy showbiz mums but not for a normal person like you I'd find a nice low key church hall class where you dd doesn't need a tutu at all.

hercules · 10/04/2004 15:15

I'd second aloha. Let her prance around like a fairy by all means but keep it fun!

lieman · 16/04/2004 01:13

just to let you know dd got a 1st 2nd 3rd & 4th at festival. she loved it and can't wait to go back. so why am i totally stressed when she takes it all in her stride?
