oh carla don't make me feel any worse than i already do. i started dd at ballet for fun but now it's taking over our lives. it's so competitive and the mums can be so bitchy. i would love to quit but she loves it am i mad?

DD1 started aged 4, now they're 4 & 5 and starting with a new pal. So, all's different, and I hope they'll be awake enough. It is blooming expensive though - £85 per term for each of them - how does that compare??

I STARTED BY PAYING £4 A SESSION WHICH WAS FINE. BUT NOW SHE HAS TO GO TO A TRAINING CLASS AS WELL WHICH COSTS ANOTHER £4 A WEEK AND FOR EVERY DANCE SHE DOES AT THE FESTIVAL I HAVE TO PAY THE TEACHER £40 PER DANCE(SHE IS DOING 6)THEN THERE IS FESTIVAL FEES £3 PER DANCE X 3 FESTIVALS AND THEN THERE IS COSTUMES WHICH I'VE BEGGED STOLE & BORROWED BUT STILL ENDED UP PAYING £150+ NEVER MIND ALL THE SHOES. EXAMS COST ME ANOTHER £150. THE SOONER SHE GETS FED UP AND WANTS TO PLAY FOOTBALL THE BETTER.

THE SCARY BIT IS MY DS(4) SEES HER DANCING AND WANTS TO GO!!!!

i live in northern ireland and the next closest dance teacher is about 35mile away though i don't know what she charges so i'm pretty tied to this one.

the pressure is mounting - festival starts on tuesday and i'm still sewing!! what a way to spend your Easter holidays

A 'training' class? Festivals?? WTF? She's only four, and she doesn't need all this. It sounds as if it is compulsory and that's wrong. At four a ballet class should be just an introduction to ballet, with a class and some movement with maybe a little part in a christmas or summer show - not all this nonsense and expense. It sounds ghastly - perfect for pushy showbiz mums but not for a normal person like you I'd find a nice low key church hall class where you dd doesn't need a tutu at all.

just to let you know dd got a 1st 2nd 3rd & 4th at festival. she loved it and can't wait to go back. so why am i totally stressed when she takes it all in her stride?
