can't find any dummies!

Just put DS (2) to bed, 2 hours past his bestime because of a very late nap! But I can't find any dummies anywhere! Am I in for a rotten night? He only has his dummy for going to bed. I was thinking about taking it off him soon but can't bear the whinging. I can still remember when we stopped DD's dummy when she was 2, took her a week to be able to settle without it. Do you think I should just stop giving it from now on seeing as he has to make do without it tonight anyway, and how can I make him accept that it is gone for good?

If you have anything present wise in the house wrap it up and tell him that the fairies came and took his dummies and left a present in return. Father Christmas took all ds1's dummies and turned them into presents. He's never asked once since.

sounds like a good idea. He has a fimbles easter egg that he hasn't seen yet. Might be worth a try to tell him that the fairies took his dummies and left him that instead. I think he might be a bit young to understand (he turned 2 on Saturday) but it is definately worth a try, thanks

Does he have the terrible 2's tantrums yet kid? You might want to rethink giving up the dummies just yet if you think he's likely to be prone to those. Dummies act like a sedative when they get into the tired tantrum stage. Ds1 could be tearing the house apart one minute and then next I'd give him his dummy and he's climb onto my knee and curl up stroking my jumper and sucking on his dummy. I couldn't have lived without it. I think I'd have killed him otherwise.

He does have those 'terrible 2s tantrums'and had been having them for the past year!!!
If I knew where the dummies were he could have one. I don't mond him having a dummy but I've searched high and low and there is none to be seen. He definately had one this afternoon, I told him to put it on the side but of course he didn't. He must be asleep now, but how long for? I daren't look in his room incase I wake him up!
I'll see how tonight goes, if its bad then I'll go out and buy an emergency supply of dummies. If its good, then we'll give it another go tomorrow. Fingers crossed for now.

Bottom of the toy box was always a favourite and then down the side of the car seat. I always had at least a dozen in the house. In fact when it came to collecting them all up for father christmas I was stunned at just how many we had.

The easter bunny also took my ds3 dummy, had trouble with him napping and at bedtime for about 10 days ... hassle ... but worth it in the end, no looking back ... until recently when at grandmas he found an old dummy in the toybox. She discovered him (he is now 3) playing, sucking wholeheartedly on "something", he turned round to look at her and said "oh look grandma I've found my lovely dummy that the bunny took"

Flip, your first message rings so true!! Maybe we'll try the same thing for the bop-bops!

We told dd that when she turned 3 dummies would no longer taste nice as she's be too old for them.
On the evening of her third birthday we painted them with that bitter stuff to stop you biting your nails. She took one very tentative lick, spat it out saying it tasted horrible and never asked for one again.
Perhaps a bit mean but very effective

Well, DS slept throug the whole night (probably due to the fact he was up 2 hours past his bedtime). When he woke up at 9am he asked for a bottle. I didn't give him one, we just got up and he forgot all about it. It looks like I will have to carry on now and no more dummies.
