It makes you wonder though doesn't it, your frightened of taking anything 'just in case..'

littlemissbossy · 09/04/2004 00:21

where you flying to?

CONNEELY · 09/04/2004 00:25

Boston..
I thought as long as you eat it on the plane and not take it in to the country then it would be ok...But bil says differently, oh how i would LOVE to prove him wrong..

yes I think you're right, if it is to be consumed on the plane it's allowed but you would have to dispose of any leftovers (hand over to air stewardess) before getting off the plane once you've landed

They are very very strict in New Zealand about bringing food INTO the country ... BUT as long as you leave the fruit on the plane then it is OK ... don't know about the US ...

I have left bags of left over snacks tied up in planes as we have landed at Auckland. They have sniffer dogs at the luggage retrieval to check that you haven't smuggled any food in!

hi there, I have taken food onto planes many of times, plane food leaves alot to be desired.
there are even resturants in the departure lounge that do takeaway (they know you're going on a plane) and there are them mini market type shops that sell fruit and food and stuff.
so... in my long winded way i am saying i think it's ok.

As has been said, as long as the fruit isn't entering the other country, it is fine. The air stewards spray that stuff before they open the doors and let you off.

lailag · 09/04/2004 03:29

yes, I have done this before as well without problems but was not allowed to take my apple through customs in the US (so ended up quickly eating it) (this is about 4 y ago, might have changed rules)

expatkat · 09/04/2004 04:12

When flying from UK to US I have definitely taken fruit for kids on the plane, fed it to them ON THE PLANE & then disposed of it before deplaning. I have never given it a second thought, and can't see how it can be problematic. The fruit (as in fresh fruit salads) fed to passengers also orginates in country of departure--so how is that different? I wonder what your bil means. . .

WE take fruit on plane flights to US, too; just can't take it through customs, that's all! Ignore BIL, methinks.
