Hi ? could someone please advise whether I should expect SOCO to remove the blood some twonk left on my car once they have finished taking the sample?

Background:

Some idiot had a row with his gf last night and decided to take it out on all the cars parked in the street where I live. It seems he was particularly interested in the wing mirrors and smash them on all the cars up to mine.
By this time it would seem he had sustained an injury and although he tried to smash mine he only succeeded in leaving a nice trail of blood over the glass and down my passenger door.
A neighbour called the police whilst he was in full flow ? I was in the kitchen, which is at the back of the house, and although I heard raised voices I was totally unaware of what was happening.
Anyway, the police come knocking at the door to tell me (about 19:30) and told me not to touch the car until SOCO arrive.
The night meanders on and I hear nothing more. Blood still there.
Called them this morning at 8:00 to find out if I could use the car ? the regional office I got through to didn?t know anything about it, but said they would get back to me.
They finally called me at about 10:30 and said if the blood was still there then it was unlikely that SOCO had been and they would send them round later this morning.
Still heard nothing.

Now what really concerns me is that they have been, taken their sample thank you very much and I?m now left with having to deal with the blood.

Isn?t blood classed as a biohazard these days?

I know I could just put it through the car wash, but that?s not the point ? how can they leave a potential hazard all this time?? Especially as it seems the guy in question was sky high on some chemical - Hep-B survives beyond dried status?.

Advise/opinions welcome.

I think you can just put on some marigolds and wash it off with some hot water with a splash of zoflora in it. It will be fine.

notasheep · 27/09/2006 14:06

Its not SOCOS responsibility to clean the blood off your car,i would get down that car wash

Carmenere · 27/09/2006 14:09

I agree with the others just wash it off your self.

fattiemumma · 27/09/2006 14:10

Not police officer but i agree with the others that (ime) the Socco will arrive take what looks like a cotton bud out..rub it over the blood and then leave.

anything left will be up to you to clean away.

As long as you do not have any open wounds you will be fine butit is probably best to wear some rubber gloves and use a disenfectant.

better still spray with antiseptic wash then go through the car wash..the temperatures the water reaches will probably kill any bacteria anyway.

sorry to hear you are having to deal with all this though

hunkermunker · 27/09/2006 14:10

I think the blood will probably come and get you while you sleep tonight if the SOCO doesn't wash it clean with all sorts of special cleaning products.

Alternatively...car wash. Definitely.

Thanks for the advice ? can?t do anything with it until I know that they?ve been and I?m in the clear to use it again though.
It just seems such an extraordinary length of time to leave it or inform me that it?s ok to clean/use.

dp says yes, you would clean it yourself - policemen aren't cleaners apparently (don't i know it!)

NewLP · 27/09/2006 14:18

Fossam ? can you ask him if it normally takes this long to get SOCO out and give me the all clear to use/clean?
Bear in mind that this happened at around 19:30 last night?
If they haven?t been out yet, good job it didn?t rain last night or so far today?

When we got burgled, the police came at about 1 in the morning, had a look round then told us to touch nothing till SOCO had been. They were supposed to be there by 9. They still hadn't turned up by 12 so DH called to see what had happened. We were assured they weren't far away but still, not to touch anything. They turned up at 4. Dh asked if they'd been busy, hence late arrival. The guy said 'what do you mean late, I got this call this afternoon.' DH told him the officer had said that they'd be out first thing. The SOCO bloke replied 'listen, it was the area Christmas Party, there was only one person on for most of the day, everyone else was recovering'.

I was quite peeved at that point. I did laugh when he picked up a funny jigsaw and said 'where did you get this?' Stupid me asked 'why, is it important?' He answered 'not really but MIL would love this for Christmas'.

Hope they come round soon. Keep calling to make sure they know. Tell them a dog is licking the car clean. Might hurry them up.

Flossam · 27/09/2006 14:26

dp says they will try and get there today - might be worth ringing to double check though?

NewLP · 27/09/2006 14:32

Thanks Flossam ? sorry about the misspell earlier.
Have just called them again, still no one seems to have a clue about this ? made more difficult I?m sure because I don?t have an incident number.
The desk operator is going to get someone to call me again?.

Gosh gscrym that must have been difficult having to avoid touching anything in your own home for so long ? at least in my case I?m only mildly inconvenienced by not being able to use my car.
No ?Area Christmas do? excuse here though ? unless they?re getting in early!!
