dd1's school chum went with her mum to a wedding in Paris, and brought her back a little present. I'd love to be able to tell her what it says! Can't work out how to do the accents, though, so I hope it makes some sense to someone!

Anna

Vient de l'hebreu:
"Hannah", la grace.
Sainement cureuses,
effrontees et gaies,
elles font preuve
d'une grande activite.
Insatiables et assez
possessives, elles
veulent etre aimees.
Peu conformistes,
courageuses, elles
sont volontaires et
toujours reinventees.

Ta if you can!

Here's a quick go.

From the Hebrew:
"Hannah", means grace.
Curious,
Shameless and happy,
It's proof
of much activity.
Insatiable and also
Possessive, she
wants to be loved
Non-conformist, she
volunteers for things,
and is always reinventing herself.

I wouldn't swear on it being 100% accurate, but it's a quick go.

Twiglett · 27/09/2006 07:58

where's frenchgirl when you need her

and why did I send my 5 year old to french club when my french is this rusty

hub2dee · 27/09/2006 08:30

Everyone knows that the French for 'toes' is 'ze toes'.

Twiglett · 27/09/2006 08:51

aha salut hub

c'mon you're a frenchie ... spill the lyrics in their entirety please

NotQuiteCockney · 27/09/2006 08:59

Here it is, in French.

But really, if you want to do a song in french, it should be "une souris verte", shouldn't it? Much more classic. I've never heard "Tete, epaules, genoux et pieds"

Marina · 27/09/2006 09:02

Or Allouette, c'mon NQC!

NotQuiteCockney · 27/09/2006 09:07

I think actual French children sing "une souris verte" most of all. Much as they are all issued with that weird rubber giraffe.

I like the one about the sleeping miller, actually. "meunier, tu dors"?

hub2dee · 27/09/2006 09:42

Twig, I can only speak French horizontally. From what I can tell it says:

From the hebrew, "Hannah" is a disgrace.
Insanely curious,
She likes to prove herself through brazen acts (les grands activitées)
She is insatiable and posessive, but wants to be liked.
I can confirm she is courageous
and she does voluntary work
but changes what she does a lot (that's the always reinventing line).

I hope that clears things up massively.

hub2dee · 27/09/2006 09:42

Actual French children don't sing, they merely pour salt on slugs every hour of their waking day.

Twiglett · 27/09/2006 09:45

what the hell is a green smile anyway?

Twiglett · 27/09/2006 09:46

I am not deciding which french songs DS sings btw .. he is learning them at french club and seems to like the fact that he knows head, shoulders etc

NotQuiteCockney · 27/09/2006 09:55

Um, sourire = smile. Souris = mouse.

Une souris verte is here .

Translation of first verse:
A green mouse
was running in the grass
I caught it by the tail
I showed it to these men
They said:
Dip it in oil
Dip it in water
It will make a hot escargot

It's a very strange song, but then so are most (all?) nursery rhymes.

Twiglett · 27/09/2006 10:11

told you I was rusty

yeah .. but right .. a green mouse makes much more sense

NotQuiteCockney · 27/09/2006 10:12

Well, sure, you could never make an escargot out of a green smile. [eye-rolling emoticon]
