Is this a load of old toss or is H speaking the truth?

DDs have a swimming lesson at 4.00pm on Tuesday. As usual, they come home starving, 'cos they've not touched their packed lunch.

H says I can't give them anything. But I remember eating lunch as a child and going into the sea, and no ill became of me because of it.

Whad'ya think? XX

Of course they can have a snack - didn't you have this "debate" before ? Who takes them, if him let him put up with the whinging, if you do as you want.

Piffle · 26/09/2006 12:41

AS an ex surf lifesaver we were advised not to have anything heavy as it can lead to cramps while in the water
But for supervised pool swims he is being a little paranoid IMHO

HappyDaddy · 26/09/2006 12:42

They are hardly swimming the channel, are they?

LIZS · 26/09/2006 12:44

btw why don't they eat their lunch ? I always made sure ds had a good lunch (such as a pot of pasta salad) when he had an active afternoon planned. Your dd's are old enough iirc to grasp that. May still need a top up either before or straight after though.

NotQuiteCockney · 26/09/2006 12:44

You shouldn't eat loads right before exercise, but a little snack won't hurt. What time would the snack be? What time would they actually be in the water?

(We used to have a swimming pool in the back yard, and we used to eat in the pool. We all survived. The no-eating rule is about serious swimming, not little paddles.)

earlgrey · 26/09/2006 12:46

LIZS, I always give them a good lunch. They just don't eat it.

NQC, a brioche. Nothing too heavy, but enough to stave off the hunger pangs.

In H's book it's not allowed.

You're still with this man why?

earlgrey · 26/09/2006 12:49

NQC - finish at 3.00pm, swimming at 4.00pm.

, sorry , by "good" I meant I packed a lunch I knew he'd eat better or he'd have a hot lunch, not meaning to imply yours were inferior !

NotQuiteCockney · 26/09/2006 12:50

Yeah, a brioche will be fine.

They should really be eating their lunches, though, that's a hassle, you making them, them not eating them.

earlgrey · 26/09/2006 12:54

HM, I don't effin know why, and neither do any of my pals. They love him, I suppose.

Apparantly there is a bit of a risk of getting stomach cramp if you do strenuous excercise on a full stomach, and the problem with swimming in this situation is that you could then drown. But a snack is going to make no difference whatsoevr, and the chance of them drowning in a swimming lesson is about...zilch. Just do it, don't discuss it with your H.

I don't inderstand why they will eat a brioche but not their lunch, but there you go!

earlgrey · 26/09/2006 14:11

Blu, neither do I
