Is this a load of old toss or is H speaking the truth?

DDs have a swimming lesson at 4.00pm on Tuesday. As usual, they come home starving, 'cos they've not touched their packed lunch.

H says I can't give them anything. But I remember eating lunch as a child and going into the sea, and no ill became of me because of it.

Whad'ya think? XX

Of course they can have a snack - didn't you have this "debate" before ? Who takes them, if him let him put up with the whinging, if you do as you want.

AS an ex surf lifesaver we were advised not to have anything heavy as it can lead to cramps while in the water
But for supervised pool swims he is being a little paranoid IMHO

btw why don't they eat their lunch ? I always made sure ds had a good lunch (such as a pot of pasta salad) when he had an active afternoon planned. Your dd's are old enough iirc to grasp that. May still need a top up either before or straight after though.

You shouldn't eat loads right before exercise, but a little snack won't hurt. What time would the snack be? What time would they actually be in the water?

(We used to have a swimming pool in the back yard, and we used to eat in the pool. We all survived. The no-eating rule is about serious swimming, not little paddles.)

NQC, a brioche. Nothing too heavy, but enough to stave off the hunger pangs.

In H's book it's not allowed.

, sorry , by "good" I meant I packed a lunch I knew he'd eat better or he'd have a hot lunch, not meaning to imply yours were inferior !

Yeah, a brioche will be fine.

They should really be eating their lunches, though, that's a hassle, you making them, them not eating them.

Apparantly there is a bit of a risk of getting stomach cramp if you do strenuous excercise on a full stomach, and the problem with swimming in this situation is that you could then drown. But a snack is going to make no difference whatsoevr, and the chance of them drowning in a swimming lesson is about...zilch. Just do it, don't discuss it with your H.

I don't inderstand why they will eat a brioche but not their lunch, but there you go!
