Fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Only used once - when DH fired it at my friend last Christmas after much drunken banter - in the dining room I might add. We were all covered in white powder - very Christmassy! Sent him for another one sharpish.

All rented accomodation has, by law, to have fire alarms fitted on all floors. We have four that run off the mains. Good tip about the fire brigade coming out too.

CD- no never. I have on ein the hall and one on the landing. Over the sumemr when the lights aren't on much they don't really charge up so after a few weeks when their charge is running low they'll beep a bit and then I just leave the light on for a day to charge them.

I have a fire extinguisher in my kitchen

I have a fire blanket in my kitchen because I am a childminder and ofsted insist on it but on the other hand the fire brigade recommend that you don't use them!!!

Bluebear · 26/09/2006 20:26

We have 2 on the ground floor - wired into the mains with battery back up.
1 battery one in the utility room.
and 1 battery one on each of the landings.
Also have a fire blanket and a small fire extinguisher in utility room (just off kitchen) in case of small kitchen fires and we are in the process of changing doors to FD30 fire doors (to protect the staircase if there is a fire so we can escape easier).
Also talk to the children regularly about what to do if a fire alarm goes off and they are in bed (ie. DO NOT HIDE, stay still and shout)

i just tested mine (forgot all about it) it's dead as a dodo i need a new one. i didn't even think about it thanks for reminder

smoke alrms- one in hall, one at bottom of stairs, one at the top of the stairs, one in the loft , test them every Sunday.
Fire blanket in the kitchen next to the cooker on the wall
All window keys are on the wall next to their window (on sticky hooks)
Kids have it drilled into themwhat to do if there is a fire , I am terrified by that advert where the kids hide in the wardrobe.

Seashells · 26/09/2006 20:34

I was just thinking about this the other day, I have downloaded the fire safety handbook from here and intend to check the whole house tomorrow and talk to the kids re what to do etc.

I have fire angels too. Only annoying thing is if you flick the light on and off quickly it screeches, but we very rarely do that now!

lizziemun · 27/09/2006 12:56

ours are wired into the mains get "tested" at least once a month. When "dh" cooks fish fingers when he comes in from a night out at 2 oclock in the morning.

Although ours seem to senitive eg when claening the hall carpet the alarms go off.
