My ds who is 3 in a couple of weeks is constantly covered in bruises. Now I know some of it is normal however the only bit that worries me is he always has a few along his spine. I vaguely remember reading years ago could be sign of something more sinister so just wondering who elses little ones have bruised spines a lot? Ds is very active and they are not all the way up his spine but up at least half his back. He is also quite thin and has a boney spine.

Yes, ds2 looks battered!
He's bony too. He has some corkers on his shins aswell.
When I look at him in shorts I think "oh! when did you get proper little boy legs?"

Nemo1977 · 25/09/2006 20:52

lol lact8 ds is like that and to add to the fact last week he had a fat lip from crashing a bike in playgroup. He is boistorous but it was more the ones on his spine I was a bit worried about.

yup, dd2+3 are the worst ones. dd1 bruises easily, but is more careful than the younger ones.

no

Ds had bruises on the bottom 4-5 vertebrae last week and I really couldn't tell you where he got them from. He is 23m and while not covered, has a regular collection of grazes and bruises.

My ds is 2.5 and hes always covered in bruises. He has one on his spine all the time in the same place. Weve kept an eye on him to see where it could be coming from in case its from his booster chair or something like that. Hes alaways boystrous and flinging himself off and on the furniture so I realy wouldnt wory about them.

Yes always, spines and backs are easily bruised as are legs, knees elbows etc.

I bruise very easily too and have a lot of unexplained bruises. As do my kids.

If you are worried at all get a blood test done by GP. My brother always had bad bruises and after a couple of arm and leg breaks they put him on the at risk list. Turns out he had hemophilia (sp?). Nothing to do with the breaks (that waz just him) but caused the unusual brusing. Sorry I don't mean to be negative, but you seem worried anyway so perhaps best to ask GP.

my 18 month dd is covered in bruises, only 1 on her back at the min, but her legs are full of them, she also has one on her bum, which is odd as shes still in nappies, added to the normal toddler scrapes, and cat scratches, shes a mess bless her!

MerlinsBeard · 25/09/2006 21:43

nemo, my 3 yo has a constantly bruised spine. he is very thin and coz he's a bit rough and tumble at mo his vertebrae stick out when he is playing. if he's rolling round he's bound to have another bruise or 10! He has "boys legs" too.

StrawberryMoon · 25/09/2006 21:43

right front of shin!..looks like dotted marking of some kind??dont know how she gets them there???

Nemo1977 · 25/09/2006 21:46

Thanks all have been worrying for a couple of weeks but didnt want to seem neurotic..lol He does have a very bumpy spine so bound to get knocked a lot.

Same here....all 3 of mine seem to ahve bruises most the time, lol..boys, eh!

2plus2plus1 · 25/09/2006 22:06

Yep 5yr olds constantly bruised. DTD2 is worst she is v v skinny. She gets a bruised spine from her slide. I sometimes worry about being reported to SS she has so many bruises.

fattiemumma · 25/09/2006 22:09

i think that if babies are born with a large bruise at the base of the spine it can be an indicator of Spinabifida (sp) but then again i may be completley wrong and talking from my backside.

My 2 are always covered in bruises and my ds always seems to have some along his spine. they lok terribly painfull but he never seems to even know they are there so they clealry aren't

DS (5.5) generally looks like he has been beaten with a large stick all the way up his shins.

We had a week where he blackened both eyes and had a scratch along his face that just missed an eye as well.

Fortunately for me all of his black eyes, split lips etc have occured on public places (-:

Yes! Although not a toddler ayny more - she is now 4y5m and started school. But she was always, and still is always, covered in bruises. All over her legs and the odd one on her arm or torso, including down her spine. She is a really slim girl most of the time, and her skin is quite pale anyway, so they show easily. I also think she must bruise easily as it doesn't take much for them to come out. But she rushes about everywhere, always running and jumping about. She doesn't have time to think of where she is going sometimes and falls. She is also pigeon toed (like her daddy!) and this has, especially when younger, caused her to trip.
