... is it technically illegal? I have a vague recollection that it is (which is ludicrous int he case of a child). Just curious as another thread made me think!

Yes, illegal and liable for a fine (£25 I think)

It is illegal to ride bike on pavement.

I cycle to school with my children to school , aged 6 and 4 I ride with them on the pavement , so I can clealry see where they are and look out for any cars coming out of driveways etc.

i always tell them to ring their bell and shout to someone when they are behind someone to let pedistrian know they are there.

The way to school is full of kids and parents rding bikes and scooters in both directions.
On the way back from school I am on my own so I go on the road.

A few weeks ago a man was started to reversed into his driveway from the road saw my two boys riding on the pavment but contiunted to reverse. One of my boys went in side of car the other swerbed round the back and nearly ended up under hsi back wheel.

the twat ( sorry but I was really shgocked and annoyed ) said that he had seen the boys but thought they had stopped !! My reply was that you do not rely on children stopping, luckily no one was hurt but all very shocked !!

If they get that riding on pavement God only knows what would happen to them on the road.

Not really relevant to the thread but thought I would tell you of my experience last week. Have been riding my bike with DD on seat on back to Pre-School as much as I can. Last week I indicated with my arm to turn right so was in the middle of the road the driver of the oncoming car (car full of lads) wound down his window and thought it would be hilarious to try and grab my arm - how bloody stupid is that!!!! Managed to stay on but had a fair wobble!

I have a bike with a trailer to take the dd's to nursery (sometimes) and most of the way is very quiet roads I feel safe on but there is a faster bit of road I hate and I go on the pavement. I know it is illegal but the path is ALWAYS clear and I would get off if there was a pedestrian. I am going SOOOO slowly too that I can't see me as a hazard . The path then becomes a joint pavement and cycle way further on.

medulla that is awful!
