Childrens very wide fitted shoes?

DS2 is just beginning to toddle, so I took him to Clarks at the weekend, and his feet were too wide for any clarks shoes!-they only go up to an H width, and the lady said he's more of a K.
Does anyone know of any others that do wider fittings?
I went to try startrite, but the shop has closed down.
He is a size 4.
Thanks

Startrite sadly seem to be even narrower than clarks. I think they only go up to a F. I take dd (also wide footed) to John Lewis or an independent children's shoe shop where they stock lots of styles, and we can usually find something to fit. Although it can get eye-wateringly expensive.

Thanks,
Ive been trawling the net, and startrite only go up to an H too.
I might give John Lewis a try at the weekend-shame it's a 50 mile round trip !!

OMG I didn't know they could get that wide! DS (19m) was an H last time he was measured and I've just been buying H-widths off Ebay assuming they'd be wide enough. His big toes are already as wide as my thumbs!

He was wearing Ricosta velcro sandals all summer, they're adjustable enough to cover different widths. Maybe you can google a stockist of those plus some good warm socks?

Start-Rite shoes are half a size larger than Clarks so they may fit a bit larger.

I always found with dd that t-bar styles came out a bit wider than single bar across or laces. Now last year start-rite did a boys t-bar stle in a 4 (ds had them but in an f fitting). Not sure if they do them this season though.

Thanks, I will try Startrite this weekend- poor thing!! I had really wide feet as a child and had to have my shoes specially made !!

these people are great

Wisp-my dd has exactly the same problem-would be better off wearing the boxes!

So many styles do not fit her,it is a real struggle as she is H/J fitting.

Will watch this thread with interest.

my ds is at least an H. i was unimpressed with clark's (really useless measuring in my local shop) and looked for an independent shoe shop - found one nearish to me here but it took really determined googling to find them. whereabouts (roughly) do you live, perhaps another mnetter knows somewhere near you?

TooTicky-Greenshoes are brilliant-I used to have a vegan pair years back, but I just can't afford £50 every couple of months for him.
Im on the Glos/Wilts border, not far from Cirencester.Im going to go into Bristol with ds2 this Saturday and see what I can find him.

We ended up going to Russell and Bromley kids and I have to say, their fitting service was fantastic and they really tried hard with different styles to get ones that fitted.
They have Clarks and Startrite but also Ecco and some others-not sure if there is one at Cribbs Causeway-worth checking?

TooTicky · 26/09/2006 15:21

Wisp, try OneSmall Step in Bath - they are lovely and have lots of different brands. The older lady is particularly knowledgeable and helpful.

Wisp · 26/09/2006 15:26

Any excuse for a trip to Bath-I love it there !
Thank you

Or try Jones - directly opposite one small step - Russell and Bromley are just up the road at the bottom 0f Milsom St( keep going past Clarks !!)

DD has the same problem - she's inherited my wide, short feet with a high instep - I usually go to Russell and Bromley as they stock loads of different brands / styles

Have fun !!

portonovo · 26/09/2006 16:39

I would definitely recommend One Small Step - my son has really wide feet, narrow ankles and high instep so it's a nightmare.

We've trailed round Bath so many times - Clarks are usually rubbish, Russell & Bromley half-decent, Jones the Bootmaker a fair bet and One Small Step best chance of all.

Or try Masquerade in Calne, they do lots of different brands.
