Yes it's me again

Just rang derby homefinder to ask them to send me registration form. Once registered I can register my interest in up to 6 houses a week. They advertise them on a web site each week. Last week there were 22, this week there are 9.
Anyway, it says not to register interest in any unless you are sure you want them.
Quite a few of them have been on the Austin Estate and classed as High Demand.
Just wondered if anyone knew anything about that particular estate good or bad.
Other areas are Spondon ,Chaddesden, Breadsall and Allenton, which range from medium demand to very high demand.

don't know residential Derby that well - but Spondon has a really great ASDA, parts of Chad are superb, parts are minging Breadsall has a lovely golf club and a lot of very high class housing (I know you are probably not interested in the golf club - but the whole village has that sort of feel)but Breadsall Hilltop is not part of Breadsall village and the school is meant to be good. Don't know Allenton, but apparantely is mid way not bad. Hope you suceed if this is what you want - Derby itself is an okay place - are you coming from a long way away or fairly local?

I live in Sutton Coldfield at the mo.
The woman i spoke to seemed to think that i would have a good chance of getting what i wnated pretty soon because of my cirumstances. I can't beleive that they have that many houses become available so often.

I think Derbys suberbs are pretty much like any other city - some are quite lively - some are fine.I suppose that goes for schools etc too, some inner city schools have more problems than their rural counterparts It depends what you want and what you are moving from. Derbyshire as a whole is a great place to live, is Derby the furthest north you want to come or could you look at more Derbyshire Dales/Amber Valley than Derby City?

From when I taught in Derbyshire (Duffield) I remember that many of the kids said that Caddesden had a bad name. However one of the teachers lived there and she liked the area she was in. As Helsbels says - you need to know which area of Chaddesden.

I have been to Breadsall village and that seemed lovely.
Not sure on rest.

For school info, check out the league tables and/or OFSTED sites.

And you can try Up My Street for info on the areas.

Hello Nutcracker. I live just outside Derby, my H is Derby born and bred. Austin Estate is in the Normanton area. Normanton is pretty rough but Austin is at the nicer end of Normanton! (Hope that doesn't sound snobby.) Parts of Chaddesden and Allenton again can be a bit dodgy (although Chad is the other side of Derby from us so don't really know it). Breadsall and Spondon are both further away from the city centre than the others. Frequent buses in and out of town from all the places you mentioned. I would check out the schools, that should help you decide.

Nutcracker - dh's family come from Derby. His cousin lives in Chad.. by the cemetary. He's never had any trouble and it seems quite nice. His aunt and uncle live not far from the centre (not my cup of tea) and his granny lived in Normanton and I seriously wouldn't recommend it.

Forgot to add his other cousins live in Sinfin which is quite residential... and it would appear semi-rural (or at least not smack in the middle of town).
