Mentalists.

Saw bloody loads of them today. All pushing some poncey buggy with an asleep weeny baby in it, parents bored as hell, looking at bunny rabbits fgs.

lol
Yes,they know no different and it's all sooo exciting.
Roll on a few years and they'll do all they can to shirk days in soft play, petting zoos and miniature train parks.

PMSL. what TF were YOU doing ther, hmmmmm?

alex8 · 24/09/2006 22:03

I always think that. Why are aren't you in pubs and cafes reading books and newspapers? or having a nap at home. Or going shopping or to art galleries which is harder with toddlers. You will spend the next decade in parks. Do something more interesting.

Twiglett · 24/09/2006 22:04

because they think they have to with the first one

because they learn so much

because it gives the rest of us something to snortle at

because that is what you do when you have a child!!!

(and not found mumsnet yet!, have no money, or time because of swimming, ballet, etc etc)

Blandmum · 24/09/2006 22:06

cos you are mad when you have your first baby.

I used to lie under the baby gym with my first. WTF? Was I insane?

Yes.

I should have sat beside her, had a hot cup of coffee and read the paper while I still had time

hunkermunker · 24/09/2006 22:09

NG, I was there with DS1 too - he was having a whale of a time riding on tractors, stroking aforementioned bunnies, squawking back at birds of prey, etc, etc

But honestly, I wanted to say "Go to the pub while you still have the choice, you twats"

DS1 spent most of his first year in coffee shops, cafes and shopping , bugger going to places that will be full of screaming toddlers. Plenty time for that later.

moondog · 24/09/2006 22:10

lol at MB under baby gym.
My friend bought books for her three week old and propped them open in front of him.

quanglewangle · 24/09/2006 22:13

Took ds1 to London Zoo when he was 2.5 - well all kids like animals don't they?
So, ds1, what was your favoutite animal? The pigeons. HA

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 24/09/2006 22:13

yes, this is most strange

you don't do this second time round

am reluctantly realising that, at 15 months, dd does quite like to sit on tractors and stroke furry things. She doesn't like classical music or art galleries so much

Ulysees · 24/09/2006 22:17

agree you're mad with first born. I did baby gym thing too DS1 and 2 been watching first home video today that I took of DS1 when born. It's sooooo long. I think we taped every moment for months on end

NappiesGalore · 24/09/2006 22:17

oh right. forgot you had an older one, doh!

lol at books for 3 week old or whatever, and babygym too. i did that! nutter.

christie1 · 24/09/2006 22:19

Because it's their first baby and they are so excited to be doing all the baby things with them they dreamed out. I think it is cute really. I went out and ordered all these books I loved for my months old first baby. She had fun chewing and playing with them, but I was so excited to get them for her.

Ulysees · 24/09/2006 22:22

christie, did that too I'm glad they go as we can coo over their babies

TinyGang · 24/09/2006 22:24

'Mentalists' - great word

I can remember doing this too with my first baby. We spent ages outside Paultons Park in the car park trying to see over the fence and debating whether it would be worth paying the zillion pound entrance fee. Well we were parents now, and that sort of day out was 'what you do when you have children'.

Dd was about 7 mths old. You'd think the enormous log-flume ride visible from 5 miles away would've given us some clue.

Mad isn't it? If only we knew that virtually all our spare time in the coming years would be spent visiting primary coloured mini this that and the others, and sitting on mini chairs you'd squeeze a few more grown up venues in whilst you still could.
